Possible G35 6MT --trade up--> G37
Hey G37 drivers! I am thinking about trading in my '06 6MT sedan for a '09 G37 Journey with the Premium and Tech package.
I drove the G37 on Friday, and damn... I am in love with this car. All of the complaints I had about my model, seem to be resolved with this model.
The dealership in Pleasanton has offered $39680 OTD with the 3.9% on 72 months. Apparently, selling it to me $400 below invoice. I've done my research and there is a dealership about 40 miles away that is looking to come a bit under. Carsdirect.com is quoting me around $38 ... however, I'd rather give my business to a dealership with an excellent service department, and b/c of the headache I've caused them. I swear, the service advisor amit is really good.
Anyway, back on point - Is this a good deal? thanks in advance!

Be careful here! This doesn't sound like such a good deal to me. Go to Edmunds.com and price this car with the exact options you are looking at. I took the liberty of doing that based on a G37 Journey with Prem, Nav and Tech (you cannot get the Tech Package unless you get the Navi). The Invoice Price according to Edmunds is $38,701. When you consider CA Sales Tax, Dealer Prep, etc. you are probably up around 42,500. You have to assume that the dealer is going to make at least $1000 (or more) profit on the sale, so that would leave you with around $1,800 for your trade (42,500-1,000-39, 680). Note that this estimate doesn't include the profit they will make when they sell your trade!
Without knowing the specific model of your '06 G35, options, and mileage I could not even guess the trade-in value of your car. But I bet it is worth more than $1,800!
If you are really serious about this, you need to take a step back and ask them to itemize EVERYTHING. Price of the car with options, sales tax, dealer prep, registration, add-on's, and your trade. If you don't, they will take major advantage of you. DON'T let your emotions do the bargaining for you. Because if you do, you will lose in the end.
You should also check out Niello Infiniti (Concord), and Oakland Infiniti for a fair comparison. I bought my 2007 G35S from Infiniti of Pleasanton. The service is awesome, and Amit is my favorite Service Advisor. But the Sales guy's are just as devious as any at dealership. Go in with your eyes open, and keep your emotions in check!
Take it from someone who has been through this many times in the past. I know what I am talking about.
Just my two-cents worth and good luck.
