Mmmmm, new Tranny!
I picked up my 07 G35s sedan 6MT about 2 months or so ago. I took it in to get some warranty work done (dash pad warp, gas cap tether). Specifically, some noise from the clutch. I had to take it back a second time for the clutch noise, and they still really couldn't do much for me as they indicated it was "normal". However, one of the sounds that I indicated was associated with the transmission/clutch that occurred when you shut the car off, I was finally able to get the tech to hear.
After about 25 minutes, the tech came back and told me Infiniti said to replace the tranny. So at 35K, I'm gettin a new one. I guess that's good news. Also found out that the throw out bearing was already replaced at 15K, so that likely isn't the source of the clutch noise.
Only downside is that if the clutch is bad when they replace the tranny, I will have to foot the bill (bout $600). I would have to argue that with the dealer, as I bought a "Certified" Infiniti. A clutch shouldn't be bad after 35K anyway.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience w/ Dreyer and Reinbold Infiniti in Indianapolis. They've been excellent to deal with.

The way I see it there are two ways to look at the clutch issue regarding who pays. Clutches usually are not covered under warranty and are considered a wear item like brake pads and rotors. However, a certified car is suppossed to have been brought up to "new" standards as far as wear items are concerned (brakes, tires, etc---I believe are suppossed to be at least 50%) which should equate to the clutch. If you bought the car two months ago it would seem they should have replaced it as the life span of a clutch should be more than 4 months (using their 50% theory). Just some thoughts.
