small blister in freshley painted bumper
small blister in freshley painted bumper
I just got my car back 2 weeks ago from an accident which involved me needing a new bumper cover. The paint job is good for the most part but I noticed a small wrinkle in paint on an edge between the bumper and headlight. I let it sit for a week or so thinking the paint is still curing so it'll probably go away. It did get smaller but today I noticed that the paint had hardened and the blister basically popped. So picked at it a bit with my fingernail so all of the raised parts are gone and applied touch up paint in the hole. So it looks like a chip with touch up paint in it. Do you guys think that will be fine? I figure if this will take care of it then I won't have to take it back to the shop and have them do it over. It's a pain to deal with with work. Will the application of the touch up paint prevent bubbling in the future? Thanks.

if you paid for the service, they gotta guarantee their workmanship. just take it back. no reason for you to spend more money to fix the same issue when you "supposedly" did it right the first time. at least that way it'll blend properly.
plus something's not right if it it was sprayed on a new bumper and it blistered... granted yes plastic is harder to paint than metal.. but any professional should be able to do it...
but yeah it'll suck to be w/o a car for a week but hey least you won't be stressing over your paint.

It could have been a drop of water that got into the airline while the bumper was being painted.
It then dried and cured into an empty blister which has now popped. It's always going to be a paint-filled chip unless you bring it back for proper correction.
If it were me, I'd bring it back.

It would have been better if you had left it and brought it back to them. As is, they could say that it actually is a paint chip from road debris. In any case, it is up to you how much it bothers you. sooner or later the bumper is going to get a bunch of those. I just hope the defect isn't an indication of the paint job. I've had a bad bumper job that just started flaking off after about a year--either they didn't prime it or didn't add flex agent.
