yes, thanks for the pics and the clarification (boss).

Just purchased the update today and getting it installed on Saturday.

What's the typical install cost most of you are seeing?

spelling error aside....30? That's it? Impressive. The cheapest I could find is 70. Most expensive was 120

man some people are really confused here! now Im getting confused...

Please correct me if Im wrong.. but the posted $30 depicts the labor charge the dealer will charge you to install the update. The update will need to be purchases separately.. Am I right?

As far as the pics in the first page goes.. That is ONLY for the 2010 model.. meaning, if I update my Navi on my 2008, I will not have the features shown in the pics. Right?

Yes.

It costs 129 + tax for the update activation code from Navigation.com.

It then costs anywhere from 69.95 to 119.95 + tax for the dealer to "install" the software update (in my case at least - apparently, only $30 for boss).

And from what I gather, the update only will update your maps, not the look and feel of your system.

So, im still confused here....

Does getting the new update for your older G's update the "graphics/looks" of the maps as well?

OR

Does it just update the new roads and directions without messing with the look of the maps?

The update you purchase only updates the map data.

The new look of the nav is because the 2010 G has a new nav system. Buying a map update will not update the look and functionality of the nav system. I suspect the original question was if you can get the new functionality with a software (not hardware) update. Not sure if we know that answer yet

The maps cost $129 to update, plus whatever your dealer charges for labor.
My dealer charges 1 hour of labor $115 (ugh)

Isn't the update just a DVD?

Well the update has to come on some sort of media I would think. How do they update the HD? Maybe its a special cable that only the dealers have but it still would come to the dealers on a DVD or perhaps each dealer just gets an updated HD to clone to your HD?

Do you know how to take your HD out?

weird

1) The cars have a hard drive with the map data loaded on.
2) You go onto navigation.com (Navteq.com) and pay for the map update.
3) They provide you with an activation code.
4) You to go to Infiniti and pay in my case 69.95 for them to use the activation code and load the updated map data onto your hard drive.

How they get the updates, who knows? Maybe it's downloaded onto their internal system, i.e. they receive no actual physical media. Either way, they're the only ones with access to it and they're the only ones that can load it on (probably through a standard USB or other type of cable, but the software is theirs only). I think proof of this is shown by the guy who knows a service person and still had to pay for it.

That is complete BS.
The dealer should not be charging that kind of money for a lousy software update. What a friggen rip off.
