Sedan showdown: My 08 G35 vs buddies 09 G37S

Both cars are completely stock. Mine has 12k miles, and his has 4k miles.

I did pull out my back seat cushion and spare tire to make up for my 20 pounds of body weight over my buddy (and to mess with his head....) ha

We ran about 15 times down the 1/8 mile track. Cars were basically dead even but he would just start inching forward as we approached 80mph. More often than not, the launch decided the winner.

Interesting finding--my car launched best with a slight burnout to clean the tires, traction control off and in DS with a 1500rpm launch.

His 09 G37S pulled the best times with traction control ON and in regular drive.

My best time was 8.96@79.3 and his best was 8.89@80.5.

Overall, I was surprised that my G35 held its' own, but I think his greater hp would've been a bigger advantage for him in the 1/4 mile. The cars were amazingly consistent never varying more than a tenth or two all night long.
Videos to come soon!!

is the G37 Sedan or coupe? What do those 1/8 mi times equal to a 1/4mi time?

The 37 would have pulled on you more in the 1/4 seeing as it has more horsepower and more gears. But sounds like you had fun either way.

Yea glad to hear. I ran a 09 G37 sedan a while back an he pulled a little up MPH but we ran out of track. We did some rolling runs. Let him try now with my HFC's. The car feels differnt with them must quicker( Thats after the hesitation, LOL)

Yeah...don't think I'll challenge him in the 1/4 any time soon! Now another buddy at work wants to try out his M45 against the G35. I'm going to tell him to wait for the green light on the tree and then punch it...hehe

Anyways, for anyone thinking about dumping their G35 for a G37, don't do it for the little bit of extra power....it just really doesn't make a difference until passing about 80mph or so. The better driver usually seems to win the race between the two.

On another note, I was surprised to find his G37 mpg was averaging worse than mine over several thousand miles. We both drive very similar routes to work and I thought he would be doing better with that 7 speed. I average about 21-22 and he can't seem to get above 20.

True the G37 sedan did pick up an extra 22 HP and 1 lb of torque but, it also picked up an extra 250 pounds!!!! I think i will stick with my power to weight ratio

That's strange, our 07 G35 got a best of 27 hwy and our 09 has gotten 30 over the same 12 hour road trip

That pertains to the S model. The non S weighs less

The 2009 non S model only weighs 35 pounds less than the S I would imagine the brakes and wheels make up the difference in the weight
