Buy new 2010 G37X and trade in 2008 G35X?

Test drove the 2010 at Infiniti of Chantilly today. I like the updated Nav and the new wood trim. Don't like the new front though. It may just have to take so time to grow on me. They only have Blue Slate and Obsidian though. I currently have an IP 2008 G35X with Nav and Tech Package with 24.5K miles. I have a fetish for white cars so I am going to hold off unless you guys think this is too good to pass up. The MSRP is around 41.5K and they were talking around 38K and some change for the 2010. They offered me 27K for my ride for trade in. After tax, titles, and all it is around a 12K difference. I only owe about 19-20K on my car now. So the big question. Do you think 5K is worth it for the new 2010.

In the exact situation, I got a 2 year lease on my 08 G35x with Nav, no tech package. I am in the process of finalizing a 39 month lease on a 2010 G37xS with Nav (Tech is hard to come by). Currently I think you can only get black interior & black, silver or blue slate exteriors. The Black on Black combo is sweet and thats what I am going with. I parked the 10 & the 09 side by side although the 09 was not the xS. Got to say I love the new design. I had wood in the 08 going with the non wood now, it looks much better than the wood especially with the black interior IMO, although wood is still a good way to go.

My advise to you is lease the new car because you seem to change cars often. When I look at how much you have paid over the years compared with what I have spent, I have saved thousands by leasing. I think go for it if you lease, but keep your car if you are considering buying the car since in 2 years, the new G should be coming out and most likely by then you may want the new model

Good luck

Dizzo, 27K for your car is good, IMO. I think you should wait 1 or 2 months so that you can get that 2010 for 37k instead of 38k. So, your diff. will be 11K OTD instead of 12K. However, you might be able to get 11k OTD right now also.

@306HP, how much will you pay in TOTAL for those 2 years?

Thanks for all the feed back guys!

I think I will hold off until they get some Moon Whites in. The acceleration did not seem noticibly different either. I do like having longer gears though. At 70mph I am at close to 3K rpms and the G37 is at 1.5K rpms.

There is a sick 2009 G37 sport at Infiniti of Tysons. Areo package, black grill, BBK, etc. Only problem is that it's Black. Looks sick, but pain in the *** to keep clean... Plus for resale, the Xs seem to hold their value more.

Maybe I'll use the 5K for a lip, rear spoiler, BBK, subtle drop, and new shoes.

Considering the dealer is paying for my last payment, total cash outflows after 2 years are around 11k including sales tax. However this is not the exact number, I try not to be exact but its not far away from the truth.

That's a very good number...about the same depreciation as a purchase but you will have add finance charge to the purchase unless you have money to pay in full.

I don't want to lease b/c I don't want to stuck w/ a car for 39 months but 24 months lease is very appealing. If they have a 12 months lease for about 5.5K total payments, I will jump on that right away.

I agree but remember you also need to add sales tax and finance charges to the buy side scenario for the comparison to be fair. 24 months would be better but to be honest I feel like @ 24 months the time was too short with the 08. I loved that car, everything worked as it should and the VQ was fully broken in. I will miss her, the '10 has big shoes to fill.

The way I am looking at it now is the new G should be out in 2 years, I can miss the 1st year and then jump on the 2nd year model with all 1st year issues sorted out. Once you go Infiniti its tough to go back

Actually, I can manage to pay only 11K OTD for a 2 years old car, not including finance b/c I pay in full. One of the reason I can get it lower b/c I only trade in if I think I can get my numbers...for the last 5 years, I had/have 2005 G Coupe -> 2007 G sedan -> 2008 G Sedan -> 2009 G coupe.

Good stuff. There are 2 ways to lower total cash outflows in vehicle ownership, you can buy used cars or you can lease. Either way you get to drive something different every couple of years

Smart Decision. *crosses fingers for a V8*

I have been looking at 2009 and 2010 G37 Sedans as well. My interest is in a 6MT Sport (more rare than a $3 bill...lol). There are several other Infiniti dealerships in our area that have the color you're looking for.

There is almost no difference in the G37 Sedan and the 2008 G35 sedans with regards to acceleration and 1/4 mile times.

Don't buy the same car again unless unless the 3rd gen is a major step backwards (when it's announced). I doubt that will be the case.
