Metal Key Replacement Cost?
Metal Key Replacement Cost?
I searched the forum figuring I would be able to find an answer to this question but couldn't really find anything definitive. My dad recently picked up an 07 G35x and he loves it. However he does have one problem. Somehow the person before him lost the metal part of the key without losing the fob part. Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace the part of the key that slides into the fob?
If it is the intelligent key. The key that slides out is about 50 bucks and to cut it is about 20 at the dealer. I am pretty sure you can get that part of the key on Ebay. I am going to get a whole new Intel. key tomorrow. I guess the dealer as to program the new key fob as well as my old one. The programming alone is going to be $120. I called around and that was the least expensive dealership. Do NOT lose the key fob!
Thanks! Yeah I've heard the thing is pricey! Although someone also told me that if you have the little metal tag that came with the car originally that its cheaper to get keys reprogrammed. I mean its still expensive but better then nothing I guess. :/
My used 06 only came with one IK. I told them I needed two and they agreed to pay for key if I paid for programming. I am going local since I bought my car from a dealer that is 3.5 hours away. I do not know if the metal key has a code since the "metal wallet key" does not have a code. Good luck!
i got a new intellikey when i lost mine and my other copy reprogrammed at major infiniti.. i dont think it was more than $160-170 total.. i feel like the cutting of the metal key was only 10-20 bucks on the itemized breakdown.. but im not sure about that part.
I just had a used IK + blank mechanical key (bought from ebay $40) programmed and cut at Metro Infiniti (So-Cal, USA). It was $45 to send it to a locksmith to cut (and the locksmith mangled the job) + $90 to re-program all the keys.
Chances are that the dealership will sell you the blank mechanical key and the pretty carabiner-clippy thing.

I got mine done today. The Fob with buttons was about $120 and the key that hides inside the fob was $113 !!!!!! They charged me $120 to program the new key and reprogram my old key so that they both work. The other Infiniti dealership was going to charge me $179 for the programming.

i believe you can buy a blank key that fits into the IKEY fob on ebay for as little as $12. Not sure but, maybe home depot can cut the key, since it looks like a standard key?
i bought an IKEY fob and blank from ebay $35, then called around to a couple of nissan and infinitis, and found a nissan dealer who cut and programmed my fob for $50. wasn't hard to find at all.

I bought my car used, and the person who had it before only returned one key. So the dealership programmed two new keyfobs for me, but only gave me one working physical, metal key (the other one was a precut one from another car).
So, just like you, I had a keyfob without a working key. I bought an uncut one from ebay for $15 shipped (ebay: infiniti nissan smart key uncut).
I took it to a local locksmith that cut it for me for about $10 (though they said they couldn't guarantee that it would work). Lucky to say everything works fine!
Total cost ~$25.
