I have 07 QX1 white pearl paint. Bought the Infiniti touch up kit, 2 small containers of base and top coat. Stock # on box is the correct code, 999PP-VSQX1. The base color is a white solid paint color. The top coat is a tinted "clear" coat, 999PP-VSQX1TC. The top coat when applied appears to be almost a bronze shade compared to the actual car paint next to touchup area. Darker than the car paint. Not what I would call acceptable. Anyone else had this result?

Somethings not right.

The clear coat contains the pearl metallic.

Should not be bronze......mine matched perfectly.

Maybe you got a bad batch?

my touch up is the same way. The pearl is not even close to being right. I actually ended up having to go to a body shop to fix how bad the touchup looked. They had to blend into about 1/4 of the car so that it would look 'factory' again. It cost me 1500 bucks but you can't even tell there was ever a chip there or that it has ever been painted.

For the really small chips, I've just been using the white and leaving off the clear. I find that if you do this, while it doesn't look perfect, the white blends into the pearl much better than the touchup pearl's color does. The chips almost disappear this way.

I'm not exactly sure if this is a 'solution' per se, but I just want to throw it out there that I read that it can take up to a week for the paint to really blend in with the rest of the car. That pic sorta makes me think this isn't the case for you though.

I have some touch up paint for my OB sedan (from Dr. Color Chip, essentially the same stuff in the Infiniti touch-up kit AFAIK) that came in the mail today. I intend on applying it soon...I'll report back when I do.

Mine is 07 IP and I also ended up just using step 1 as the second coat with step 2 looks bad. Not perfect but as close as I can get it.

Update, I talked with an experienced car painter about this problem. He said the tinted pearl paints are hard to paint. You have to put the tint coat on very very lightly. When he is repainting, he actually sprays 5 test strips; first one with very light top coat, next one a little bit heavier, so forth. Then he compares them to actual car paint to figure out which of 5 to use. So for us to use the bottle and brush, we have to brush on tint coat very lightly. Almost a dry brush. So in my case where it looked bronze, I was putting on way too much tinted top coat. He said even use a bit of retarder in paint so you can brush it out ( off) if too dark when first apply. Not an easy task to match the spot.

+1 did the same thing except when I de badged I put too many pearl top coat and messed it up : /
