30K service.

So while my car is in the dealership changing out the steering wheel, shifter and trim because of plastic peeling, they called me and told me that I should perform a 30K service on the car. It is a 07 and currently has 37K mile on it.

They quoted me 900 but gave me a 100 dollars coupon, that's still coming out at 800.
I have heard that people had brought their car into Nissan dealership to do maintenance and it is a lot cheaper?
If the price I got from the dealership is legit then I am not trying to cheap out, but if there is another way to get it done with a cheaper cost, I will go for it. So I just want to hear from you guys with what you did with your 30K service. thank you in advance.

800 is overkill for 30k service. Try bargaining with them and cut it down I think my dealer first quoted me 6xx and I eventually got it down to 4-500. Also, look at the checklist of stuff they perform and see if you can do any of it yourself to save some money.

It is way to much money...period. Use your own mechanic and it will cost less than half that. Do the Cabin and intake air filters yourself and save even more. The intake filters drop in and don't even require the use of tools. The cabin filter is a clean and easy task that anyone can do in 30 minutes or less.
I would only use my dealer service dept. for warranty work.
Here are some exact quoted comparisons (note I am in Canada):

Distance..........Dealership..........My Mechanic
18,000km...........$290.57............$85.00
30,000km...........$168.90............$55.00
48,000km...........$314.00............$95.00

For the record, I have a sheet from my Infiniti dealer that shows their pricing for all the scheduled maintenance intervals and the most expensive one on the list is $337.40 at 84,000km

...so you can see a pattern here. I'm sure it would be similar where ever you live.

I am in Portland, Oregon.

After doing lots of research, I got suckered into oil and filter change, ($52) and the drive belt change ($193).

I have changed my cabin filter myself 1k ago, and will be doing my own air filters. I let them do the oil change so I can have some sort of maintenance record there. And since I bought my car used ( it was from cali) and I wasn't how the last guy drove it, I decided to change the drive belt as well, I thought it would be easier to have them to deal with it since it is a pretty important part of the engine, I don't want to mess anything up. So come out of the door at about $250.

They suggested to flush the coolant, AT fluid and power steering fluid. But I have decided to do those later at maybe 60k? Will they be okay before 60k? From what I know those should last till the next service at 60k, right? Please correct me if I am wrong.

That should be fine. Do fluids and inspections by the book or sooner but still don't pay dealership prices. Use a trusted mechanic.

I found a good new mechanic and he told me he could do it for at least 1/3 the cost of what the dealership wanted. When I asked if it affected my warranty to have him do it...he said absolutely not. In fact, he was a service manager for years before opening his shop. He said as long as you simply follow the guidelines from infiniti all would be okay.
No way I am paying over $800 for that service.

just have that mechanic do an oil change.

do everything else yourself.

oil change cost 40-60 save that 1/3 offer and use it for mods.

if you feel like doing a drain and fill for the diff, then do that too.

when is differential due or how long does it usually last before having to change them?
What about AT fluid? Coolant? and Power Steering fluid? All these things were listed and I have decided to skip them, just wondering when they will be due.

Thanks a lot guys.

and I think I better start searching for qualify infiniti mechanics around town.

My estimates of fluid change intervals:
Oil changes: every 5-6K with Mobil1 synthetic or similar (mostly because of filter replacements) - didn't do an oil analysis though.
AT fluid - drain/fill at 30K, flush at 60K
Differential/transfer case - somewhere around 60K
Brake fluid - replace every two years.
Coolant - thinking of flushing at 60K as well.
Power steering - dunno?

its all in your service manual.

me personally this is how I do it.

oil change every 6k
air filters every 15k
diff every 45-60k
auto trans - 60k 7at trans needs to be done at the dealer.
spark plugs - 60k
coolant - once a year/every summer
brake/power steering flush - 30-45k

^^ Just make sure that oil is Synthetic... dont want to be running 6k on regular oil... i would wait until at least 90k on the plugs though, and 60k on the coolant as long as it still has a nice green color... im in texas though so it might be diff for colder climates.

I'm at 30k too. The maintenance book says you should do these:
1) Engine oil change
2) Coolant
3) Auto transmission fluid
4) Replace engine drive belt
5) Differential fluid
6) Engine/cabin air filter

I am thinking of doing number 1, 3, 4, and 6. What do you guys think?
Nissan deal gave me a quote for those 4 things about $550.

I have them check my belts every oil change. I'm at 56k and plan to change the belts at 60k. At 30k all I did was oil, coolant, cabin filter. Did my diff oil at 50k, and atf fluid 3 times only because they had to keep replacing the vlve body. My dealer says 100k on the spark plugs and 60k on the diff oil but whatever gives you piece of mind.
