seafoam DIY?
 

I want to seafoam my 2008 G35 sedan... i know how the proper steps of seafoaming a car, and Ive already done it on my Corvette and 350z with great results... but...

I've searched, and cannot find a DIY for seafoam on the VG35HR dual throttle body G's... is it any different? Will sipping on the seafoam from the brake booster hose only take the seafoam to 1/2 the engine? do i need to put it through the brake booster hose AND another hose? not sure why searching this forum and google didn't yield any DIYs except for the first gen G's and Z's

you could always go old school and just use the equalizing lines on both intakes to suck it in. i'm honestly unsure if there is a better way on our engines. i'll be curious to find out though.

^ that's what I was thinking. There should be no reason to have to run seafoam through a 2008 car. I have 2 motorcycles and on our forums, the only folks that have to use it are the ones that have bought an older bike 82 or so that have been sitting around for a while.

With that said it's not my ride and if he wants to run seafoam through, that's his decision.

its my gf's 2008 G35 with 60k miles using 87 octane gas

lately its had rough idle.. and sometimes the idle would drop so low that the engine would shut off

took it to the dealer.. they replaced both MAF sensors for free under warranty.. it did not resolve the problem. So they said bring it back, and they would clean the throttle bodies, but it would cost me $250... i said no thanks. Bought some CRC throttle body cleaner for under $5, cleaned out all the gunk that was on the throttle plate (it was visible)..and it solved the idle problem all under 10 minutes.

now im thinking ill just take the extra step and seafoam the car...1/3can goes in the gas tank, 1/3can in the oil (which would have to be changed within 100 miles after pouring seafoam into it), and 1/3 can into the engine... i seafoamed my 2004 350z last week (single throttle body) and it yielded great results. went from 21.9 average mpg to 24.3 average mpg...for $6.99 a can, not bad.

can you please take a picture of this equalizing line? thanks in advance.

im just not sure if i use the brake booster cable if the entire engine will get the seafoam, or only 1/2 the engine...the dual throttle body setup is throwing me off and im not certain on what to do...

why not just the brake booster line? It doesn't matter if you have two TB's. You have a single plenum that goes into all 6 cylinders, so the brake booster vacuum hose should do the trick.

^+1 its on the back of the engine on the top plenum in the middle once you take the engine cover off, it faces the firewall maybe some one can snap a pic for you.

Someone has to ask the stupid question. What is seafoam?

Its an all in one cleaner for your engines internals to help get rid of carbon buildup and other deposits in your engine, this helps you regain some performance, mileage etc

so what's the general consensus for a dual throttle body engine.. go ahead and use the usual-- brake booster hose... or use the equalizing lines on both intakes ?

can anyone confirm this?

Indeed.. If this is the case, I'd like to point out some simple math. Based on the current price (around here) of regular at about 2.68/gal and premium being .15 more expensive, premium is 5.5% more expensive (i.e. $2.20 per $40 spent)

However, the loss of efficiency and power caused by the engine knock, detected by the knock sensors and modified engine timing is likely more then a 5% difference .. the math is not a direct correlation, but, IMHO the cost of using lower octane fuel is actually *more* expensive then not.
