engine cuts off at slow speeds

2008 g35 sedan with premium pkg, 43K miles, AT

i've had this issue happen 3 times within the past wk but can't seem to recreate it under certain conditions..

when driving a slow speed (<10mph) sometimes my engine will completely shut off and i'll have to put it back into park and restart the engine. i've made an appointment with the dealer tomorrow but before i go, i wanted to see if anyone had any insight to what could be causing this to happen.. i dont what the service dept to come back and say "sorry, we can't replicate it so you're S.O.L." which is what i'm expecting..

i've also been experiencing the hesitation issues with the transmission so i'm getting that looked at as well.

^ +1 sounds like the TB is having a hard time letting the air through at low speeds, if the car is driving fine at other speeds then it cant be your alternator, so id guess its a dirty or bad TB as well.

dropped it off at the dealer this morning and they're looking at it now..

took the service tech for a ride and was able to replicate all 3 issues:

1. hesitation in 1st gear when accelerating from a stop
2. hard shift in the 30-35 mph 3rd gear range when accelerating
3. engine occasionally shuts off when driving slow speeds

i'll let u know what they say about each one..

Could be caused by a bad tank of gas. Bad spark plugs. MAF as was mentioned before. Fuel filter being bad.. Air intake make not be sealed properly.. Computer not reading properly..

Let us know what they come up with.

Good thing that you got the dealer to replicate the problems.

Good luck.

just picked my car up from the dealer... fairly quick turnaround..

they put in a new gear shifter assembly, reprogrammed my ECU, and reset my idling speed.. they said that was running a little low causing the engine to stall..

based on the 5 min drive back from the dealer everything seems ok. we'll see after a day or 2 of real world driving..

update:

i haven't driven my car much in the past 6 days cause i was out of town. but this morning, while the hesitation issue seemed resolved, it was more muted than actually fixed.. when accelerating normally, i no longer felt it but in stop and go traffic i felt like hesitation still. also, this afternoon the engine stalled again in the parking lot so i took it to the dealer again..

evidently, there's a timing issue with my car so they've ordered some new pulleys to try and fix the issues (don't know what's related to what) we'll see what happens after i pick up the car tomorrow or saturday..

Sounds like something more serious than dirty TB or bad MAF for sure, keep us posted. G/L

i just share the same concern that one day when i'm merging into speeding traffic, it'll stall and i'll be in a dangerous situation..
