Question The new guy - and some questions

Hello All,

I finally got a 2007 G35x last month with about 13k miles on it. I know that's very low miles, but I will be adding tons soon with my 120 miles per day commute. I love the car so far...

I have some questions:

1. I am getting only 19-20 MPG (mostly highway). Is that normal?

2. Planning to get my rear windows tinted. $150 sounds reasonable for 25%?

3. The car came with only 1 fob So I need to get a new one as backup. Dealer said the new fob+blade+programming will be around $300 Seems like I can get a new fox with blank key for about $45 on ebay. Is there a way by which I can program the fob by myself?? What about the key blade?

4. FOB battery seems to be draining like crazy. Replaced the battery 4 weeks ago - already got a "low battery" warning on the dashboard!!

5. Is there any way to update/upgrade the dashboard/console firmware?

Thanks you all in advance

Regards
Nick

The console firmware.. menus etc. I am assuming that a lot of things have changed from 2007 to 2011.

^ what they said, as for the second key, u can get a new i-key off of ebay for ~$40 and then have a reputable local key maker cut the blade and that will work fine but you will have to go to the dealer to get the i-key programmed unfortunately which will vary in price from ~$40-80 depending on area and dealer

If your always on the freeway you should be getting a little over 20mpg depending on how fast you drive. If your at 65-70 you should be getting just about 25 mpg.

Tint all your windows for that price. not just the rears. I hear people getting a better deal for their tint. For me i paid 120 for all the windows.

wow 13K for an 07? Talk about low. The previous owner must have only take it out on weekends

$150 for rears is the right price if its a high quality film or ceramic. I paid $350 for all my windows.

What kind of film do you have? And a lot of people on here from the area go there as well. Great work

75% more heat reduction than lower tier tints

Welcome Nick!!

3) When I picked up my car it only came with one fob but I made sure that the dealer put it in writing that they would be making me a 2nd one under the purchase agreement. I dont know why more people dont insist on this

4) Are you docking the key in the dash every time or are you just leaving it in your pocket? Sometimes if you don't dock it, the car can't read the battery voltage and will think its low.

I bought the car at a Porche dealer (maybe somebody traded it in for a Porche). So I could not negotiate too much for the spare fob key. Also, the dealer did not reveal to me that the spare one is missing till the last minute.. while I was signing the paperwork!! A lesson for the future..

I will try docking the fob and see if that stop the "low battery" warning.

As for tinting all windows, my state does not allow front windows to be tinted.. hence just the rear windows..

Nick
