how to tap a wire to cig plug

I need to tap a power line behind the cig plug for a navi/video bypass switch from Beat-Sonic. How do I do that? Can't find a picture to see how it looks like the rear of cig plug.

Do I need to unplug the battery first?

Any advice is appreciated.

I don't have a picture, but you can just strip and little and use a quick tap. I would always cut power when working with electricity ;-)

or use a "posi-tap" product to do it. no stripping required and it's removable. very safe to do as well.

be sure to look in the shop manual to verify the polarity. reversing your DC power can fry some electronics.

the back of the cig lighter is a harness. another option for tapping in is just sticking additional leads into the harness. thats what i did to avoid any splicing. just make sure your leads are thick enough to stay in contact and tape them so they don't pop out.
