18 inch wheels installed on a G35x

Can I put the staggered size 18 inch wheels on my 2007 G35x (factory equipped with 17's) and if so will it affect the all wheel drive system??

Thanks guys.. Al

I'm sorry because this may be somewhere on this site... Mine is at factory height and is not lowered. I just am not sure if the staggered size and different size tires will affect the car other then better handeling.. I think it would look sharp with the wider rear tires as well as the larger rims.. and since they are the factory 18's they should fit ok.. Thanks, Al

As long as your overall tire height is the same, you should be okay. Although, other than for looks, there isn't much to be gained by going with a staggered set-up on an X. You guys are already lucky to have traction on all four wheels.

Outside rolling diameter of the tires is recommended to be the same.
You can run staggered, just follow the above rule or you risk damaging the AWD system..

What do you mean "outside rolling diameter" I assume that as long as the front to back and not to stray fom the original size or height I mean it should be ok??

Think circumference.

The wheels at all four corners must travel the same distance to make one complete revolution.
You can change from the original size if you want, although this will affect the accuracy of your speedometer. Whatever you decide, just make sure all four corners are the same.

There's a few guys with staggered setups on X (and they look great) but the outside diameters are the same to keep the AWD safe.

Really think about what you are doing it for though. Like already said, you already have improved traction with AWD. Staggered would be more for looks than anything else. Going this route, you lose the ability to rotate the tires, since the fronts are different than the backs, and most decent summer setups have uni-directional tires as well.

I understand now... You are right the AWD system does handle like a rocket on rails... I do likethe looks of the larger wheels though. My wheels were re-finished from mthe dealer and they are now stained and looking sad.

You have an endless list of wheels and sizes to choose from.
Take a look around as there are a few threads dedicated to just this subject.

I kept my OEM 17's for emergency purposes and they have saved my butt a few times now.
I run 19x8.5's in the summer (245-40-19) and I have a dedicated set of 17's with Blizzaks for the winter.

Also, (obviously haven't search for the proper threads yet...) are those just the stock wheels you use for winter or do you go narrower?

I'm planning to run this set-up below.

Front:
255/40/19
Overall Diameter: 27.03"

Rear:
Overall Diameter: 27.12"
295/35/19

OR

Front:
245/40/19
Overall Diameter: 26.71"

Rear:
Overall Diameter: 26.85"
285/35/19

You just have to try and keep the overall diameter as close as possible.

I like this calculator....
http://www.autos.ca/tools/tirecalc/tirecalc.htm
It tells you everything, including how far of your speedo will be.

My wheels are MRR GT-1's in Hyper Silver
They come in Black or Chrome as well.

Same size as OEM for my winter setup
I got the winter wheels and tires from Tire Rack for under $800... not a bad deal.
