6MT... Glitches?

I have never owned a 6mt G35 before so I really do not know what to look for, but it really seems like my car is difficult to slip into first gear when downshifting or sitting at a light. It also seems to grind some times when i am putting it into 6th on the highway. Are these normal or should I have them checked out?

While I haven't experienced the problem with 6th gear I can agree that mine also has a problem slipping into first when down shifting coming to a stop. Once I am stop it goes into first gear with no problems. I have around 46k miles on her and everything checked out fine the last time I had a miantenance inspection. Will continue to watch it though.

Are ya'll rev matching? I usually have to rev higher than other gears when downshifting to 1st (I know its a given lol but I mean higher than normal revs)

As for sitting at a light, I've never experienced difficulty getting it into gear

I try to rev match, but I am still not 'good' at it lol Only put about 600miles on the car so far.

You'll be fine man. I think the gate is closed in first gear so you don't accidentally slip it into first if you're trying to shift to third. Just rev match that ho and it should open up. As for sixth on the highway I guess just be really careful and make sure you clutch all the way in. If it still grinds something else might be an issue because I've never had a the 6th gear grinding issue.

Oh and gong to first from a light, it could just be the notchiness of our gear box

the 6th gear grind is not normal (search there are a few who had their trannies swapped under warranty due to a grinding issue in 6th) if your pushing the clutch in all the way get it checked out, as for downshifting into 1st, as 3flips said there is in fact a lock out gate to avoid tranny/engine damage from unintentional shift to 1st at a speed that would cause the rpms to jump a lot, so rev match and you should be fine.

This is not a glitch. The reason you cant is cause the shift gate is closed in 1st. Technically, you could slip it in by rev matching. You should only go into 1st at a complete stop. If your 6th gear is grinding you might not have the clutch fully engaged while throwing it in gear or your lazy shifting and letting the clutch out to soon We'd need more info on that. Could be a variety of things but I'm sure it's driver error. No worries though, you'll master it

I recommend reading https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/...-drive-mt.html

Yeah no issues there. Just you not used to that car. The 1st gear issue like other say is normal, that's just how they designed it. There's really no reason to go in first while you're still moving anyway. This car have enough TQ to move out from a crawl in 2nd gear.
It'll take some getting used to, this is my second G35 and this clutch is way different from my 04 I've had. I've only had this one for 5 months

Drove a little differently today and ignored the first gear problem. Also tried rev matching and i seemed to be driving a lot smoother. Shifted into 6th and it still grinded. Went back to 5th, and went back into 6th. No grind. Tried it a few more times and it wouldn't grind. I have no idea..
