Short story on engine break-in...
Back in early 1964, when Chrysler embarked on the factory sponsored race Hemi cars, there was a definite procedure for break-in. I may be a little off but it went something like this:

Warm engine..make three half-passes at 1/2 throttle shifting at 4000 rpm. Cool down.

Warm engine..make three half-passes at 1/2 throttle shifting at 5000 rpm. Cool down.

Warm engine..make three passes at 3/4 throttle shifting at 5000 rpm. Cool down.

Warm engine..make three passes at full throttle shifting at 5000 rpm. Cool down.

Warm engine..make three passes at full throttle shifting at redline. Cool down.

Change oil and filter and inspect main and rod bearings.

Race.

Disclaimer...I do not recommend this procedure for your new engine.

Mike
