Bike Rack: Yakima King Joe 2 or Saris Bones 805

Hey guys, need advice on which bike rack to get. According to my research, both of these bike racks fit on my 2007 G35 sedan with the factory spoiler. I have read in some of the posts that these trunk racks will scratch the paint.

2 questions: (1) does either of the bike rack fit well and (2) how bad is the paint scratching?

The prices are comparable so I am looking for ease of use. Thanks.

I think I'd rock a roof rack before one of those. Those look like they would scratch your paint.

+1 on the roof rack! You can get a removable rack, and i'm in for seeing the pics!

I have the king joe 2 and used it a lot on my old car. I always made sure the trunk and rack feet were clean before putting it on and I never noticed any scratches in my paint. But...
there's no way I'm risking it on my G.

If only the rear seats folded down so I could fit my bike in the trunk

I had a similar rack on my last car, and it DID scratch the paint. Granted it was black and showed everything. I would always get everything that made contact as clean as possible, but still got light scratch marks. Never again.

Mine was white so maybe I just didn't notice it.

OP, go with a setup like this one

Personally I'd get a hitch and put a rack on it. That way you can take it off easy, its easy to put your bikes on it, and you can lock everything down - and no paint scratching or pulling on your trunk.

Hitch mounted bike racks are my preference as well, but it gets a little more complicated on cars like the G where you have to install a tow kit.

OK, I just went though this on my G. I have the King Joe 3 and the seams between the trunk and the body are so tight that I was not able to close the trunk when I tired to put it on my car. So I know for a fact that it will not fit properly. I guess you could hook it only from the top and bottom, but I wanted to be able to access the trunk when the bikes were off the rack. I would strongly suggest looking into roof mount or hitch mount.

Thanks for all the replies. Got a Thule from a bike shop--the guide said it would fit, but the factory spoiler got in the way. I am going to another bike store to try the Saris. If that does not work, then I would have to go with the roof rack.

Just fyi if anyone else is interested. The Saris Bones 2 fits much much better. Never tried the Yakima so not sure about the fit there.
