Brake Pad Recommendation

hey guys,

what do you think of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-QC1287-ThermoQuiet-Brake-Pad/dp/B002VI2YN0 http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-QC1287-ThermoQuiet-Brake-Pad/dp/B002VI2YN0

i don't want to get the oem ones because i don't want to have to deal with shim kits.

are these pads ok? can anyone recommend any others?

oh, i'm driving an '07 g35S and changing the front pads.

What are your driving habits? Your driving style will dictate the best brake pads for your car.

Just visit this web page http://www.r1concepts.com/infiniti-g...-2wd3-pads.htm or Tirerack and pick the ones that you think best matches your driving style, ie. agressive, conservative, etc. By the way I second the Hawk pads, I had them on my RX7 and they were quiet, low dust and had good bite to them. I put over 50K miles on those pads on that car and I way a very aggressive driver at that time.

You probably want to replace rears with the same brand/type pad once the time comes. I bought
these Bendix ceramic pads these Bendix ceramic pads
and they will replace my OEM pads when the latter wear out in a few months. Bendix pads a pretty well regarded and offer a one-time free replacement - so you get two sets of pads for the price of one. If going with Hawk pads recommend getting ceramic instead of HPS as HPS have a poor cold bite.

I second Hawk ceramic - low dust, very quiet, OE level braking.

I installed those Wagner pads on my wife's ES330. I would have to say they are very good for the money. Good bite, low dust, quiet. If you want eye ball popping bite, get Stoptech Streetperformance pads. Everything I've installed them on including my sis' Subaru a few weeks ago stops on a dime and brings confidence when braking. Don't worry about the shims. As long as you grease all the contact points well you should get quiet and reliable performance.

I don't think that just switching pad manufacturer necessarily eliminates the use of shims though

Those metal backing plates really don't do squat. Most pads have their own plates incorporated. I tried to reuse the ones on my G35 and it didn't even allow enough room with the new pad to clear the rotor (Axxis ULT). What's important is to find good synthetic brake grease and smear a bunch on the fingers of the caliper and piston side when you install them. Also, you want to grease up all the metal tabs which hold the pads in place in the caliper. My sister's old Impreza had old pads which didn't even have backing plates at all. I did the same to them and they run perfectly. No noise whatsoever.
