AT Check Light Is On!

Hello,

I have a 2007 G35 Sedan Base Model. Today I went and bought K&N Air filters (Drop Ins) and replaced them. Once I was done I was checking out the performance and I was driving it a bit hard. NOT TOO HARD. No burn outs or donuts.. Just accelerating hard. All of a sudden my AT Check light is on and even though the car is in regular drive mode it says "4" on the gear position. Like if it was in sport mode and i was in the 4th gear. Is this a major problem or minor?? Do i need a new transmission?

SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

THNX!

Do you mean CEL(check engine light)? cause Iv never really heard of 'AT Check' light but i dont have an auto, either way im pretty sure you dont need a new transmission, maybe it was just a glitch or an electronic issue at the most imo. Firstly check the AT fluid level for sure which is a relatively easy job.

Is the car driving normally otherwise? Does restarting the car get rid of the check light and does it come back on? How many miles on the car?

Yea there is a AT Check light and I dont think its the same as check engine light. The car is driving normally but when I drive it hard sometimes and switch from 2nd gear to 3rd, the tires do slip.. i guess thats called slipage if im not mistake.

I just drove it again and now the light has disappeared. I tried driving a bit heard and it didn't come back on... WIERD!

The car has 53K on it. How do i check AT Fluid?

You should be fine, and if the tires are chirping from 2nd to 3rd then thats not tranny slippage and most probably just tires breaking loose for a second when pushed hard before the VDC puts everything back in check.

The AT dipstick on the 1st gen is right behind the engine and is held by a 10mm(i think) bolt and then you can just pull the dipstick and check after removing the engine cover, not sure if its same on 2nd gen since i have MT

Since you're still under warranty I would recommend going to the stealership. I had the same thing happen to my 04 G coupe. I figured it was nothing, then after a while the tranny would get stuck on 2nd. I would have to turn off and restart the car. Take advantage of that warrant, I had 90k miles on my car, no burnouts or donuts. Better to be safe I.m.o.
