ipod functionality

Forgive me if the has already been discussed. But when starting the car, my ipod takes a good 15 seconds to engage. If the car is started up from another music source i.e. Radio, XM, CD, or AUX after the 15 second delay the system reverts to ipod and cuts in with no music. Is this normal? Also when switching from ipod to another source isn't the ipod suppose to pause the track? If I were to be listening to a certain album, when i switch back i find that the ipod has continued to play...pretty annoying. I would think that the infiniti ipod interface is more sophisticated than this.

The ipod is connected with the factory ipod chord and is a 5th generation 80 gig ipod classic and can charge through the cord w/o any special attachments.

I also use a 5th gen, 60GB iPod classic/video (whatever its called these days).
- It usually takes just a few seconds to start playing songs
- My audio system has never randomly quit one music source and started playing the iPod
- yes, it should retain the song you where playing if you switch from iPod to something else and then back to iPod (unless the iPod is resetting without you knowing).

Have you tried resetting the iPod.
- Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
- Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds.
(this works if the iPod locks up as well)

Not to threadjack, but since charging was mentioned, is there a reason my 4th generation iPod nano won't charge using the factory cable? Compounding the problem is (i) the fact that using the factory cable seems to decrease my iPod's battery life by at least half compared with using the 1/8" output jack, and (ii) the fact that the cigarette lighter thing doesn't provide power when the car is turned off. Any thoughts/suggestions other than bringing my iPod inside to charge it on the computer 2 or 3 times a week?

^ I believe it should charge. Check the compatibility of your Nano in the G35 owners manual, section 4. It requires iPod Firmware 1.2 and later.
- Try resetting the iPod, same procedure as mentioned above.
- Try a different iPod cable?
