staggered question on an x

I just got a killer deal on some work vs-kf 19x8.5 +39 with 225/40 in the front and 19x9.5 +40 with 245/40 in the rear. I did alot of searching on the staggered issue on the awd and from what i gathered is as long as the tires overall diameter is the same I should be ok. My question is going with 245/40 all around the safest way to go? I am not really too concerned with having the fat tire look on the back and I would like to stay closest to stock size so I dont screw up the speedo as well.

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure overall weight for wheels/tires is a factor as well.

hmmmmm, well there is an x on here with 20x8.5 with 245/35 in the front and 20x10 285/30/20 in the back and he says he has not had any issues at all. From what I have read is the width of the rims is not an issue as long as the tire's overall diameter is the same (or very close). Forgive me if I am mistaken, I am somewhat of a noob.

I run 245-40-19's all the way around with no problems at all.
What you stated is correct though... as long as the outside diameter (rolling dia) is the same, you should be fine.

Nope.
I was just trying to confirm that it's okay as it was part of the original question.
A staggered setup is okay though... as long as the diameters match as previously mentioned.

Well, while the 245/40 will indeed fit on a 9.5" rim (rear), it is definitely at the limit of manufacturers recommended width (8" - 9.5") for proper mounting so its handling may be less than optimal. It may look a little stretched too. (Yes, I know people run stretched tires all the time and get away with it. NOT a fan!)

I'm a noob as well. But from what I was told when I wanted to roll staggered on my X is if the back wheels/tires weighs more the car will have to work harder to make those wheels rotate and could mess up the AWD. But don't take my word for it

will the stretch change the overall diameter of the tire?

I doubt it would alter it much, if at all. Again, remember that it's still within the recommended spec, it's just at the extreme, so there's probably some small tradeoff in performance. It's probably no biggie, I just wanted to offer the info for your consideration.

I just got 19x8.5 19x9.5 with 245/35 front and 275/35 rear. I'm at school and the wheels are at home. Diameter is off by 3%. I'll let you know how it goes on the 30th when I mount them.

Thanks very much, I would def like to keep the 245/40 in the back to save money. Just want to make sure that it won't fk up the car's awd.

I'd get a professionals opinion on this (not just the forum). Even if its off a small percentage you'll be putting more strain on the drivetrain. Might not matter now but down the road you may cause premature wear to your drivetrain.

Seems like a big price to pay for staggered wheels. I'd pass if I were you.
