First time using Plasti Dip

So I decided to take the plunge and use plasti dip to get rid of that ugly chrome lip on the trunk. Im going to re do it. the first time, like a noob, it looked hORRIBLE. second time, not AS bad, I think....

My advice for first timers...PATIENCE!

Mask as MUCH AS YOU CAN!! don't want to clean up a lot later. Its not HARD as it is tedious

Is that just plasti dip, or did you paint over it afterward? It looks more glossy than the first pic.

Yep, takes about 5 minutes, and you can paint the center pushbutton a lot better. Your job came out nice BTW.

Do you guys know if there's a DIY writeup on how to remove the valence? Any references I can use?

if u really mean the valence, u cant take the valence off but to remove the chrome trunk peice u just gotta pop out the clips and the handle on the cover on the inside of the trunk then u need i think a 10mm socket to take off a few bolts and thats it it should pop right off!

The only thing you need to watch for is once you loosen the 4 bolts the end of each stud is unthreaded & tapered so it's very easy to fumble one and drop it down the front of the trunk lid to be gone forever. At least it was for me
The rubber weatherseal around the spoiler also may come loose, just a little 3m spray adhesive will get it stuck back on.

Thanks a lot guys! I did spray a High Gloss Black paint the second time around. In one of the pictures you can see the pealing of the plastidip right behind the chrome lip. I think for my third time I will take it off...It seems easier. I wish I would had thought about that, it would had saved me a lot of news paper =P this Friday, if all goes well...I'm doing my wheels. I'll post pictures if or when I do it. Cheers!

So, did you spray the high gloss black over the Plasti Dip? If so, it came out looking great. If not, it still came out looking great, but I like the potential to undo it with Plasti Dip.
