poor keyfob battery life?
I replaced mine once in 4 years (after the 3rd year). Even then, the original battery still worked but I had the low battery key warning and didn't want to push my luck too far. I think I ran with the warning about 4-5 months before I replaced it. I never had to replace the battery in the wife's iKey (she never really got to used hers either 
)
I think it all depends on how much we use it and from what distances we frequently use them from outside the vehicle.

I've only replaced mine twice in a little over 4 years. One thing that I think is a major factor, is whether or not it's getting buttons pressed while you're carrying it in you pocket or wherever. I am often surprised to hear my lock/alarm chirp on my car when I'm in the garage working on something or out in the yard doing something. Based of the frequency of that alone, I figure the buttons must be getting pushed all the time and I just never know it. I know my spare key still works and it's had the same battery since new.
Was it for THAT issue, or just the old recall on the keyfobs?

Yea if you worry with that low batt indicator in the dash you'll be replacing batteries quite often. My deal asked me about 7 months if I wanted to replace it for $7. I laughed and said no thanks. I was really thinking how stupid do they think I really am to pay $7 for a $2 battery.
maybe, maybe not. I say if it starts to fail, use your manal key to get in the car. Who knows, you might get lucky and start the car and just drive to radio shack to get a new battery.
