Dealership drains out my Mobil 1

My G35X had an odor and the cabin filter had not been replaced in 18-months, figured it might be the cause. Local dealer had a special for $55 installed and would clean and wash the car gratis. I'm not handy and that deal is pretty good as the cabin filter installation for Infiniti is more complicated than on most cars. I was told they were out of loaners, but it will only take 20-30 minutes, so I wait. Nearly two hours later it's finished. They tell me sorry for the delay, but great news, the mechanic misread the order and changed my oil. So I got a free oil change! Great! Except I had Mobil 1 synthetic and they replaced it with some synthetic blend, which I have little doubt is 99% conventional. I did not say anything as I had run this oil 4,500 miles and am planning on changing it fairly soon anyway. Had the Mobil 1 been relatively new, it would have been an issue. Just another example of the buffoonery that you can pay top dollar for with dealerships. Too early to tell if the cabin filter was the cause, but I'm hopeful.

Cabin filter is a simple 10 minute job, and I would never let the dealer scratch & swirlmark (aka wash) my car, even for free

dude the cabin filter takes 5 minutes to replace, i did mine and my dad's FX in under 20 min, taking both apart, pulling both out of the garage, putting the filter in and puting everything back together.

Well, you are a better DIY'er than me. I change my own cabin filter in my Lexus SUV - simply remove the plate inside the glove box and pull it out and replace. The Infiniti requires (at least to me) disassembling the entire right side of the glove box. What's easy for some is not easy for others.

A thread that started off with him telling about how the dealership did the wrong work on his car turned into how easy changing the cabin filter is lmao

I was thinking the same thing. I've learned a lot from this site, but you have to shrug off lots of the posts.

Don't fret the small stuff and be glad you were able to get a free oilchange out of an overpriced cabin filter swap. The filter is like $15-$20 and takes less than 30 minutes even for a newbie. Next time just pickup a filter on ebay and read up ahead of time on the diy. Take out couple hours on a sunday and you can do it your self. Even if you tried to do it your self for $20 and then factor in the cost of oil and filter paying $55 for the cabin filter swap along with free oil change is a good decision. Enjoy but keep up on other maintenance like differential fluid, tranny fluid, brake fluid, spark plugs, belts and all the other items. If you do not want to do the work your self than find a nissan dealer or independant nissan/infiniti specialist.

Didn't intend to diss the OP, it may seem a bit tough to get to but the only real thing that you have to watch is dropping that back screw behind the glove box. $55 isn't a crazy charge compared to some charges I've seen, especially w/ the oil change mistakenly added on. Be careful w/ those dealer car washes, they can really swirl up &/or scratch the paint depending on the dealer, let alone the hard water spots that bake on when out in the lot.

I'm sure you meant well. You enthusiasts always get up in arms when regular owners like me waste money on a DIY or have a dealer mess with the G.

totally agree i'm not a good DIY guy myself either just because it never goes as easy as the guy who posted it haha. but the cabin air filter is very simple way easier than the video looks. i took out my whole radio and disassembled that too and it was cake work. Very surprised at myself. Have faith in yourself Bobby!!!!
