Adding Factory Navigation to Non Nav 08 Sedan
Adding Factory Navigation to Non Nav 08 Sedan
How hard is it to do the swap if its possible? I know you have to change the entire center console because of the extra buttons and sd slot but do you also need a different steering wheel and the cd box in the trunk? Will i be gettting other info on the screen since it has more features on the nav console? I am only thinking of doing this because i found a really good deal on an OEM nav unit with touch screen and center console (2 pieces). If anyone knows where i can get it installed or if someone here knows how to do it, i wouldnt mind paying for your help.
I tried this and even went as far as buying the unit in the dash, screen, and buttons. Once I got in there I found out the harness is totally different and all the components are wired differently.
I also thought about repining the connections to make it work and I would have had to repin every single connector. I wasted an entire Saturday and got nothing out of it.

I like how it looks and would rather use Factory nav then a suction cup holding my tomtom, also like all the extra gadgets that come with nav, more menu options and such.

I agree that it looks great and that the windshield mount is a little cumbersome, but once you've used it you'll go right back to your Tom Tom.
I don't like paying for updates and traffic, I don't like not being able enter routes while I'm driving, and what is this "change region" BS?
In general, I think it's entire operation is cumbersome. However I do like the integration.
I do. I think Garmin is better, but like anyone that is just my opinion.

Rather, they bash it because they don't have one. Was just making sure you weren't "one of those"

Yes the integration is great and I do pay for the live traffic (which only came out to about $35/yr with my XM Sub) and Love it. Not entering routes while driving is a safety feature that I pretty much agree with. If I need to enter a new dstination I don't mind pulling over, but it is very very rare. I have all my common destinations stored and all it takes is me pushing a button my my steering wheel and saying "Destination (fill in blank)" And off we go! Something my garmin can't do
I think you are better off asking an installer near you. What good is it if someone here says "Yes its possible" but no installer withing 500 miles of where you live can even do it or will WANT to even attempt it?
Good luck.
BTW I upgraded to a Garmin 1450 LMT with lifetime maps and traffic last year on Black Friday for about $200.
Just saw that Target has it for $129, but will probably be limited availability.
Only complaint that I have is the lack of sensitivity on the touchscreen as compared to my old Nuvi 350. It's no worse than the OEM one though.
To Willdogs point the voice prompt is nice, although a little bit cumbersome.
Is there a good Kenwood or Alpine integrated unit that gives the OEM fit, or can you not do that with all the factory controls?
