Are water spots bad?

Sometimes during the week I will hose down my car if there is a lot of dust, bird poop and such on it if I don't have the time to give it a good wash. I often do not dry it with a towel if I only hose it down as I know that can easily cause scratches.

I really don't have much time during the week, so if my G is very dirty I like to hose it off just to get some of the crap off. This often causes water spots, can they do any harm (to the paint, anything)? I always figured it was better than leaving all the dirt and bird poop on it.

Thanks guys.

i suppose it depends on what was in the water as it sat there drying. if the water drop was acidic, it could etch your clear coat a little, and that could be a pain to buff out. if it was just dissolved solids, the minerals are most likely on top of the clear coat and can be removed with a clay bar, or even just a regular wash.

I would drive it through one of those touch-less washes at cheveron.... since you has no time... you can do it after you get a tank of fuel.

Well i know if the sun hits it kind of stays for a while even after a good wash. Would be nice if you can wash your car every week or other week to keep the paint in good condition

If you have stuff such as bird droppings or road grime, I'd use a QD and spot clean rather than hosing the car off.

As others have said, hose water can have numerous contaminants, and leaving it on the car will do nothing but bad over time.

Clean the bird stool everytime and dry off your car... the waterspots in my case have stained it to a certain degree and stained my paint at certain angles of vision. I've tried many buffing services and even tried myself to make it better but the effects will still remain.
hope this helps

I forgot what it's called... But I bought one of those attachments you add at the end of the water hose with a little filter.. I use it to spray down my car/bike after I wash it.. and I don't wipe it off. There are no water spots so I recomend you get one of these....

And since you don't have time and don't want to wipe it down after you hose it down... get yourself an electric blower at homedepot for less than 100 bux.. and use it to dry your car in less than 5 minutes! There goes your solution!
