Is this even possible? I love the way most of the "newer" cars work with the iPod controls and I would love to have something like this on mine. I have made extensive use of the audio system, including using my iPod through the RCA plugs, but I wouldnt mind having one of the newer systems.

I'm OK if it costs some cash to upgrade the hardware. Right now I'm leaning more towards putting a couple of minor upgrades into this car vs buying a new one.

 

it's pretty though! If you know QNX, you can take out the hard drive and hack the unlock key (drive is locked) you can read and update stuff on it. I saw someone on a GTR forum a guy figured it out, but in the end couldn't do much other than put a bigger drive in. The updates are signed as well, another bit you'll have to get past. I wish they would let 3rd party developers make stuff for it at least - those days are coming though. I work at a place that develops and hosts developer portals, and car companies are starting to realize having a developer community for their platform is a good thing, because people come up with cool stuff on their own.

I dream of the day when we can all have something like an open android platform in our cars, so we can easily develop our own apps or put our own stuff on it. I think those days will come, but most automotive companies seem to really still seem to resist this 'open' idea though - it's only a matter of time in my opinion until they give in.
