This is simply not true. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and normally must be changed every two or three years, REGARDLESS of miles.

Why would anyone buy this level of car and be surprised about dealer maintenance costs?

And those are not BMW 750 maintenance prices he quoted either. What's your point?

Point is ur making it seem like this car is a high end luxury vehicle when its not, and assuming the OP has the money lying around the spend it. Instead of giving him a snide remark, why don't you actually try to give him some positive pointers?

Where did I say high end luxury? Oh that's right, I didn't. What it is though is a car that demands a decent premium when it comes to parts and service.

I think i'll have them install the in-cabin filter, don't really want to be ripping on the plastic, I'll do the rest myself (assuming it needs it).

Seriously?

Of all the prices they gave, that one was the worst. If you think of the amount of work involved it doing a proper brake fluid flush, their price was way better in value there. If I were gonna pay for any of those items to be done for the prices the quoted, it would definitely be the brake flush.

Replacing the filter is pretty simple. You may as well do that yourself as well.

Where can I find a in-cabin filter for only $15? Also still looking for videos, I'm worried about pulling the plastic out of my car and damaging it!
Hope your visual inspection gave you a good indication of how strong they are. Overkill? Interesting thought process but, to each their own.

I got a fram with charcoal in it at walmart for about 15 bucks. Its pretty easy, hardest part was getting the glove box out.

I too would second paying them the 90 for brake service - that seems like a fair price to bleed out the system. MT oil change looks pretty easy, just make sure you have new gaskets on hand when you do. That's my next fluid change after my power steering and clutch.

Because of the process of bleeding the brakes and such? I have no problem doing work like that myself, but pulling on the plastic I'm afraid of breaking something by pulling too hard.

OK , it's your car and your money, but I'm thinking you're just psyching yourself out over the whole filter thing. Bottom line: Someone with the skills to DIY a brake fluid flush could more than handle the cabin filter.
