Uprev Tune Done
Uprev Tune Done
Hey guys,
Well i finally went through with it after going through the bullydog, and then hypertech and i think my car is a lemon. I went to Jtran here in Houston. they specialize in the VQ motor, as well as nissan/infiniti in general, and hes got over 70 uprev tunes done under his belt. with my mods he was only able to get about 4HP and 10tq out of it.
Because he did change a few other things like the throttle restriction and torque management settings the car feels much more responsive and gets moving quicker, im just bummed i didnt make more power. he said he had done plenty of G37s that have made great power, as well as a 07 6MT that made really good power. he said the only difference between that car and mine was the 6speed and he had the Stillen Gen3 intake.
He told me that since i basically made no power he was just going to charge me for the license, and for me to take the money i was going to spend on the tune and buy a STillen Gen3 intake and then come back and we could retune.
What do yall think? vid below Just for fun. Its a good soundclip for anyone wondering what Resonated HFC and A FI catback sound like as well.
UPDATE: Stillen Gen3 intake installed.

I went back to Jtran this weekend and had it retuned. final numbers were 275 hp and 215tq at the rear wheels. that equates to a 14hp and around 14tq gain overall to the rear wheels. power started to be made when we took timing out of the mid range and changed the cam profile on the top end. it was leveling off at 7000rpm before the profile change, and after it climbs all the way through redline now. im satisfied now. the Intakes make a huge difference. the Stillen Gen 3 is awesome.

Exactly, He was so pissed. he couldnt figure out why it was doing what it was doing. theres no cutting out, and its pulling strong upto redline. no check engine lights, no leaks. Im puzzled. the only thing i can think is that the car is exhaling really well, but lacking on the intake side. i just have drop ins.
Have you done compression and cylinder leak-down tests? I would think that would be in order for an under-performing high compression NA motor. I'd certainly want to know the results of that before I dropped any coin on a fancy high dollar intake.

I'm assuming you did a baseline of that same dyno immediately prior to the tuning, and that you are not comparing to results from another dyno/day/session etc., . . .yes??

well, the torque is a bit lower than I'd expect, but the hp is actually not too bad coming from a Mustang dyno. But still, 4 hp difference doesn't seem right, and certainly isn't worth the effort.
whats funny is 2 years ago when that intake came out i told myself i would never buy it... its only a matter of time it seems like now.
I initially wondered about that too, and while I'm sure it does make some, since his numbers are relative to his baseline which established immediately prior on the same dyno, then the tranny would remain a constant for either reading, and the difference remains significant.
Maybe try another dyno but this summer i'll be tuning my car from a person that really knows the G's. He got some great numbers when tuning and people feel the difference right away.
I can definitely feel a difference. its 100% more responsive and just feels like a different car.the numbers just werent there to support it.
