Has anybody here ran high octane fuel in their G. I can get 100 at a pump right down the street but it is $7 a gallon. Any opinions or objections?

My reason for running it?........ I don't know. I actually have had some minor pinging a couple times when the car was not completely warmed up. That might help. Thanks for any feedback.

 

What octane fuel do you regularly run? You shouldn't be pinging on 91/93 octane fuel. Putting 100 octane fuel in a stock car isn't going to help at all, you may even loose power since higher octane fuel is more difficult to ignite. If you are using 87 octane fuel, adding a few gallons of 100 octane fuel to a tank might not be a bad idea to boost your octane to acceptable levels and avoid ping. Be careful not to use off-road high octane fuel that contains lead. I believe "76" stations sell unleaded 100 octane fuels that would be safe to use. Cars that have been modified with high compression engines, superchargers or turbochargers can require higher octane fuel to prevent detonation and have been tuned to run them. I'm guessing your car isn't one of those. Use the fuel your car is designed for and you will get the best performance. If your engine specified 5w30 motor oil would you use 75w90 instead because the numbers are bigger? Hopefully not. Use the same reasoning to determine if high octane fuel belongs in your tank.

 

^ not worth it at all at that price unless youre going to the track or need it for a tune you have imo, if you want to increase the octane level then get the 93 premium and add a bottle of octane booster for ~$3-4 to notch up another couple of octanes without burning a hole in your pocket!

If you had a standalone or some other means of modifying your tune on the fly, you might get a bump from it. But for all reasonable intents and purposes, it's WAAAAY overkill. Your stock ecu can't benefit from it since you're NA (no FI) so it just ends up being a waste. You could mix a few gallons in (or whatever amount it worked out to) to net a 94 octane or so, but that's about it, and even that is a stretch.

 

Like everyone else said if you're not specifically tuned to take advantage of the higher octane it won't do @@@@.

If you're hearing pinging check your plugs and look into an Uprev reflash, it'll make it run a million times better

Now if i could get 100 octane close to where i live, i still have 2 slots left on my Uprev tune. that would be pretty nuts to have a 100 octane setting.

 

I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't be able to notice the difference. Now tear that block down, throw in some forged high compression pistons, then we'll talk

 

I always put 94 octane in my car. Is it overkill? Perhaps. But for a few pennies more per Liter makes sense to me.

 

THANK YOU ALL! The highest they offer is 91 up here (yes, I run 91). I add 44k every now and then. That will be sufficient for me.
