Crossover Points / Polk/ General Audio
Crossover Points / Polk/ General Audio
Hey y'all, I'm new to the forum. I purchased a 2007 Infiniti G35x with 36k on it two months ago.
I installed the following items a few weeks back:
AudioControl LCi6
Polk PA500.4 (Class AB Amp)
Polk MM6501 (fronts)
Polk MM651 (rears)
The sound has been really nice but it's definitely lacking bass from what I can tell. I refuse to run the speakers across their full frequency range so I'm crossed at about 65-70 hz right now. I just hate having too much bass coming from the doors.
I'm thinking about doing the following for the low-end:
Polk PA600.1 (Class D Amp-300 watts @4 ohms)
Boxology/4080 Enclosure
Polk MM1040 (4 ohms)
I do have a few questions:
1. Crossover Point: Both the speakers and sub are extremely efficient (94db and 91db respectively) but I'm wondering what sort of settings I should go with in terms of crossovers. I'm leaning towards 80hz but I didn't know if there were folks out there who have a better idea about where to cross.
2. Subsonic Filter: My monoblock has a subsonic filter which defeats signals below 30hz to conserve power and protect the sub. Would using that feature be a smart idea given the lack of airspace in the 4080 or would it kind of ruin my investment? I'm kind of leaning towards not using it given that I'm investing $600 before the install and I want to get as much frequency as possible (I think the sub goes down to 24hz).
3. Power Supply: I haven't changed anything with the grounding, alternator, battery, etc. The 4 channel is 360W RMS and the monoblock is going to be 300W RMS. Do you think I should change any of those electrical pieces or is my total power low enough that it won't matter?
Looking forward to your advice. Thanks in advance.

I would definitely not use the subsonic filter. That is mainly used for ported enclosures where you do not want signal below port frequency. As for crossover frequency, I think where you have it now is perfect, but that is something you can play with. And with the power output as is, you shouldn't need an upgraded alternator/battery.
hey, thanks for the quick response! i'm excited to get everything installed and post pics for y'all. quality audio has always been a non-negotiable issue for me with my cars and i wasn't willing to settle for the Non-Bose system in this 07' G35.
