There are some threads here about replacing just the clutch assy., which saves the hassle and expense of cracking open the system and replacing the entire compressor outright.

Well, I know there's at least one here in the V36 section, because I've posted in it. I'll see if I can locate it.

'08 w/62k miles compressor just barely made noise like 2 or 3 times (usually after extended use). Luckily still under extended warranty and dealer agreed to replace it!

Disappointing the noise may come back, but noise was barely noticeable for 6 years 10 months... so hopefully new compressor will last that long!
