Installing Sport Bumper on my X, hmm what to do with the ICC
Hey guys, a week ago I picked up a sport bumper for my OB 08 from one of our members (Thanks Gunnnnzzz). I already ordered a lip for it (should be coming in a couple days) and have decided I will most likely install it soon (even though I should wait til after winter considering CT has some pretty rough ones) because I'm impatient and its gonna look awesome. The problem is I have the intelligent cruise control unit up front and I cant decide what I want to do, sooooo, I figure I'll get some opinions. BTW - From what I have read on the site, removing the ICC unit will cause CEL to come on or cause other problems although I still haven't found a definite answer by searching.
Option 1: (Safe Route) Cutout the mesh for the ICC unit and install my front plate in the middle of the bumper (its illegal not to have front plate in CT and cops are stricttt about it)
Option 2: (Better Route) Cut the mesh for the unit and keep the plate in the cabin, maybe tucked in the front of the dash. A little more attractive up front but I still am not a fan of the huge ICC unit (although its hidden better on the sport bumper than my journey)
Option 3: (A litttttle better) Cut the mesh for ICC and put plate OVER it, rendering cruise control useless (I like CC but I honestly dont use it that much)
Option 4: (Awesome Route) Somehow push back the unit or move mesh forward to cover it..Keep plate on the dash or just have it in the trunk and hope cops dont bother me. The front of the car will be cleannn and better looking than ever. I'd like to remove the unit altogether but like I said, I'm not sure if this will cause a bunch of problems.
Let me know what you guys think! (The silver lining of the front plate however...I have vanity plates that are G-XXXV ..so they look pretty cool, but I would still rather have a clean front)

your call on what you want to do really, all options seem feasible IF the S mesh aligns with the ICC but i recall that someone tried it and it didnt align with it but if does then your in the clear obviously. I have my plate mounted with l brackets in the middle of the bumper after being harassed by cops left and right for 4 years and i had my plate in the cabin visible through the windshield but always got the warning/ticket stating plate not attached to front bumper so its your call
FYI in case you didnt know, the ICC even if covered you can still use the regular CC without distance by holding down the cruise button for a bit.

I didn't know that actually, thanks for the info. Maybe I wil keep it positioned behind the mesh. As for the ICC fitment, I've scoured a lot of forums and have found a majority of people agree that all Nissan does for Sports w ICC is take the Sports bumper and cut out the hole. There is even a notch on the back of the bumper which I think is there for a reference to start a cut. I will add a pic of the notch when I get home from work
Maybe you can sell the sport bumper and get another with the ICC bracket built in. I have an xs /w the tech package so my bumper is a sport bumper but with the icc bracket built it. If selling your current sport bumper is an option, then i would suggest going that route as it would look more clean.
^ im pretty sure that the position of the icc is different on the S and non-S(someone correct me if im wrong) so maybe on the xS they place the icc as per the S location for the bumper.
Theres only 2 locations where the icc goes. Non sport has them directly below the fog lights while the sport has it below the grill. I think for the +10 models both are in the same spot which is below the grill.
Look at my how-to, it'll give you a clearer view of where the ICC is on the S.

You can still have the plates with the ICC in the stock location. Unless i'm mistaken, the location should be the same between S and non-S, it's just that on the non-S the fake mesh goes further inside (which is where it sits on the S.) Hope that makes sense.
Also, there is no ICC-equipped Sport Bumper out of the factory. It's the plain old S-bumper with the mesh cut-out. The bracket or trim surrounding the ICC sensor is a separate part. Again, the how-to above will show you how that looks.
You could also relocate the ICC sensor elsewhere altogether. IIRC, Blueslate or someone else did it to accommodate their turbo, or s/c.

So I finally got the new bumper on and for anyone looking to make the journey to sport swap, it's pretty easy. All I had to do was detach the ICC unit and remove it from the steel mount. Then with the unit still plugged in, I zip tied it out of the way and to the side so you can't see it behind the mesh of the sport bumper. I know a lot of people on this site dislike LEDs but I found a quality set on eBay ( cost around $70 for 10 individual high powered white units). I made a template for each slanting side pocket. It came out looking great and although they look yellowish in the pics, they are a vibrant white that is easily seen in the day and works well as fogs. They function as DRLs and come on when I turn on the parking lights and obviously stay on when the headlights are turned on as well.
