Drained the wrong oil..HELP!
Hi, I'm normally not the type to ask for help on forums, but I really have nowhere else to go, so I hope you understand.
I was trying to change the engine oil for my 2008 G35 Sedan, and while trying to locate the engine oil pan found something that seemed to be an oil pan and made the stupid mistake of draining that fluid.
After some time, I finally figured out that the engine oil draining pan was under the plastic protection cover, and that I drained something else I shouldn't have, and have no f@#$ing clue what it is.
I've searched the owners manual, service manuals, and am planning to purchase a Haynes manual, but in the mean time, I was hoping any of you guys could help me out and tell me what I have just done, and if it can be fixed, etc.

I couldn't tell exactly what the color was because it was already night, but I think it was something like dark brown to reddish, from what I could tell what was left on my hands.
I thought it might be the transmission fluid too, maybe I'll check the gauge tomorrow..

I've done some additional searching and I think it is indeed the ATF.
It seems it's not as simple as just buying new oil and putting it back in though..
Can this be done on my own, or is a special equipment required to replace the ATF?

Replacing ATF no big deal.
If it is indeed ATF fluid you drained its not a big deal to replace. Determine how much you drained out, usually 2-3 quarts for me. You want to replace the same amount. Get a ride to the nearest Nissan or Infiniti dealer and get S Matic ATF. You can't use the stuff from the local parts store. It can be pricey $8-$12 a quart.
Open the hood. From the passenger side look at the back of the engine near the firewall. You will see a metal tube with a cap held down by a 10 mm bolt. Unscrew the bolt and pull out the ATF dipstick. Attach a funnel, pour in the fluid. Done. I've done it several times. I have a 2008 G35s V36.

I can't tell you how relieved I am now. I was thinking maybe I'd need to have my car towed to a mechanic or something..

Your situation may actually be a blessing. If trans fluid was a dark brown it needs to be changed anyway. It should be a bright reddish color.
If it starts turning brown/black than you have significant wear and fluid could be burnt.
Drain and refill is the best way to maintain fluid unless it has been flushed regularly per owners manual from beginning.

Hi there, no a big problem yes in fact you drained the transmission oil, now what you need to do is measure the amount of fluid you took out and go to NISSAN and buy the transmission fluid (check the manual, I am not sure if it is Nissan J or Nissan D) put in the same amount you drained and check with the dip stick. You will pour the new fluid in the hole for the dip stick ( passager side/ firewall side) it has a 10mm nut you need to remove to be able to pull the stick out.
Make you you buy the right NISSAN TRANSMISSION FLUID..... If not you will damage it.

You just did yourself a favor by changing the ATF
Definitely get Matic-S and if you failed to measure how much oil you drained out, you'll need to refill on the lower end of your guesstimate then bring it in to Nissan so it can be attached to CONSULT to determine level and how much to top it off.

I've been wary of ATF and it's sensitivity to pressure on my last two cars, where it was always off -- or rather, how the gauge always looked like it was coated all the way with ATF (similar to the oil dipstick, this was on VQ35DE's)
Since then, i've always just used it as an initial gauge, but went by how much was drained to know how much to put back.
