Question on Sound....?

Hey guys I'm new to the G community, just picked up a 2008 G35x with a little under 70k miles on it.

Just a question... When I'm driving from 0-30mph the car is making a weird sound not really a screech but it sounds like metal is rubbing on metal. It sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side but it's hard to tell since I can't really hear it unless I'm driving. Do you all have any ideas? Thanks!

Is it under hard acceleration? Like at a shift point? From what you're describing, I'm assuming not, but if it IS at a shift point under hard acceleration, it's kinda normal, unfortunately. An odd noise that the cars make.....normal, though.

No not under hard acceleration just normal really, it's pretty weird because it's like a screech but not really. Like I said it's hard to describe it just sounds like metal is running against metal and making a high pitched noise

Is your car dropped? Could be your tires rubbing the fenders.

It could also be your splash shield on your rotors rubbing against the rotor...

First, I would make sure your front brake pads aren't worn down to the rivets, and/or the caliper is sticking. Then I would look for an issue with the rotor shield (as mathnerd noted) either rubbing the rotor OR as sometimes happens, a small pebble can get lodged between there, causing a noise. I guess it's also possible it could be a wheel bearing noise.

The only metal screech sounds I've had on vehicles were the result of bad brakes or wheel bearings. Given your year and mileage, I would lean more towards brakes. Can you have someone stand outside the car while you drive by on either side? Maybe they can pinpoint the noise location better that way?

A lot of shops will do a free brake check with oil change... may be worth looking into.

This is only whole moving right? Not when parked and idle?

Noisy AC compressors are common with 08...but it's more of a mechanical sound and not rubbing metal on metal
