Nissan ATF fluid
Nissan ATF fluid
I drained and fill my transmission fluid a year ago with the Nissan Matic-S fluid. Transmission been fine ever since. While researching for another forum thread, I came across this document:
http://www.notre350z.com/forum/files...rticle_109.pdf
stating that:
Matic J
Matic J fluid must be used in vehicles for which it is
specified. Nissan was so worried about the wrong fluid
being added and damaging the transmission, they took
the extraordinary steps of bolting the dipstick in place
on the 350Z, and removing the dipstick entirely on the
first G35, in order to impede the progress of those who
had not read the manual. However, Matic J has now
been superseded by Matic S for automatic transmis-
sion applications. Matic J is still required for some
transfer case applications.
....which is interesting because I always wondered why that is when I tried to check the ATF fluid. I hope no one uses generic or other branded ATF fluid, even the manual doesn't recommend anything other than the matic-J or matic-S fluids.

Yes they do... here it is with the screw and dipstick removed (it's on the passenger side beside the shroud lining the battery compartment)
You might want to cap that off or find a dipstick for it, anything to cover the hole.

^ i think that pic with dipstick removed is just to show where it is located otherwise the OP never said he was missing the dipstick.
@G35XX: if that pic is from your car(G35) then its not a VHR its just HR motor which i know has a dipstick but as per soundmike the newer G37 VHR ones dont have one though i dont know for sure id take mike's word for it given how meticulous he is with his cars and information pertaining to them

I may be partially incorrect, i know the 7AT's, which came standard on VHR's don't have this. Not sure if any VHR came with 5ATs, in which case the stick still came with them.
I'm pretty sure the '08 G37 coupe with the 5AT had the regular (non-bolted) dipstick, but it wasn't until a year later that the sedan came out with the VHR motor, and by then they also had updated to the 7AT, so it may well be that there are no G37 sedans with the unbolted dipstick.
