Any Master Mechanics here ??
Looking for a very qualified mechanic to resolve
"Ticking-Clicking sound from engine at around
1200-1400 RPM ,.. Driving or in park . As soon as
You press on the gas above that Rpm, or in idle it goes away ?
One infiniti mechanic siad it had to do with a
Gasket leaking and a drop in pressure for the chain tensioner mechanism which works hydraulically ?
Another mechanic at nissan said he thought
It had to do with the timing chain binder ?
Anyone heard this problem before ?

Here is the original thread, and I recorded a video of the noise. Let me know if yours sounds like mine.

I had a ticking noise from my engine during IDLE because the engine wasn't as loud and once you rev it up, you can't hear it anymore. I brought it to a dealer to diagnose, and they found that the ticking came from a solenoid purge valve, and it was normal.

There is no way it's normal ,,, kind emmbarrasing just cruising around at 1300 rpm with that sound coming from a luxury sedan !
Well brought car in for inspection for the ticking sound ,.. turn out to be from a faulty gasket that work with the chain tensioner. The tensioner works with hydraulic pressure,..and since the pressure is low from the leak , the low pressure causes the faulty chain tension ,... noise coming from chain being loose !!

SO . . . it sounds like both the mechanics you spoke with earlier were right on target then.

...Cought it just in time ,warranty expires in 1000 miles or august 26 !!
Congrats on getting it in before warranty ran out

BTW, when you get it back, it would be great if you could post a copy of the repair invoice here for everyone to refer to (just cover up your personal info).
I have the exact same sound happening at the exact same RPM range. Just caught it yesterday. The car is actually going into today for service. Will print this thread out and bring it with me. Thanks for posting!

Update :
Just got a call from my Infiniti Dealer (Brossard Infiniti) in Quebec, they told me that they found the gasket leak causing the pressure drop and thus making the chain tensioner not to perform correctly ,..... But the bad news was they also found some dried cooling liquid in a area were it should;nt be ,meaning another leak !!
Now they have to take the whole engine out to change these gaskets !!
They say it's about 15-20 hour job ! ,... I'm luckily barely under warrenty,1000 miles left
Im very suprised , car has only 111,000 km (69000m), always used Mobil1 synthetic oil, and i have'nt seem to hear about Gasket failures often , I
Ithink I will start a thread asking about Gasket failures in second Gen G's ???

Have them check oil pressure !!!,... when they checked mine it had almost no oil pressure !!,...meaning there was a leak, causing the chain tensioner not to perform correctly !
I just came back. They are aware of this issue but they said it usually comes with a CEL and a code of P0001 or something to that nature. Nonetheless, when I go back next week to get some parts replaced under warranty (long story) they will diagnose it.
I don't think that's even a valid code. Is it possible that the code was a actually a P0011 instead ?
