Corroded rims?

My tire guy told me my rims, I guess the insides, are Corroded badly.... And the TPMS is most likely fused. I don't need the TPMS replaced yet, but it's gonna be a bitch later.

Are our rims covered under the elite extended warranty? Corrosion coverage? He said all 4 have corrosion on the inside... I don't even know how moisture can get inside the tire and the rims but apparently it did... Is this common? Mine is a 08

I have never heard of this happening so far, but I got my tires replaced last summer (mine was an 07) and there was no corrosion at all. I live in a heavily salted area (MA.) Corrosion is a huge issue here, and I even had to take my cat heat shields off because they were corroded and rotten and started making rattling noises.

What tires did you have before, and what size were they? It may be possible that you were running different size tires? Not sure.

I'm in the northeast of USA...I live in Massachusetts. What tires did you have and what size were they?

I also have stock 17 inch and have not had any corrosion. One way salt can get in is through the valve? There could be a leak in your valves? However, since you have this problem in all four tires, it makes me believe that it might be due to your tires being the wrong size for the rims.

Hankook venous v4es... Stock ones that came with the car.

Wouldn't the wrong size not fit at all? I checked a while back at tire rack and the manual, the size was correct...

I just checked those tires, and they don't come in our size, which should be 225/55/17. However, the 225/50/17 size can fit on our rims, but they aren't stock sizes as what is recommended by manufacturer. You'll just have thinner profile tires. TireRack does say you can put other sizes on your rims, but it seems to me that the tires that aren't stock sizes won't fit as perfect as those that were made with the correct stock sizes. It probably explains how salt and water got into your rims.

These are the only Hankook tires that fit our car with 17 inch rims:

Also, stock tires 17 inch tires that come with the car aren't Hankook...they're supposed to be Goodyear RS-A's. I believe someone put wrong sized tires on your car, which caused the salt buildup and water leaking through and corrode your rims. If the Infiniti dealer installed those tires, then you should be covered under warranty. If another place did the last set of tires, then you should go to them and claim for reimbursement of new rims.
