Push to start issues

Hey guys,
I've recently started to develop a problem with my 07 G35x when using the push to start button. I was advised by the dealer that my battery was on its way out during the last service session, so I decided to swap it out with new one from interstate battery (slightly higher Crank AMPS than OEM).

The problems started about a week ago. I noticed the car would slightly hesitate when pressing the brake and pushing the start button. It progressively started to get worse so I made the decision to replace the battery on Monday. The vehicle started right up with no problems after installing the new battery. A few hours later when I attempted to go out and drive to the store, the car started to do the same hesitate issue when I went to start it. The car does this every time I initially start the car after its been sitting for a while. If I shut the car off and try to start it back up, it starts with no problems.

Anyone run into this issue before? I made a small video last night but I will take one of the interior later today.

Sounds like it's starinng a little weak.
Have you tried turning off the lights prior to trying to start?

Also, if you've been making short trips...trying taking a longer drive (to charge the battery).

I always leave the lights on auto mode, but I'll try turning them off and going on a longer drive tonight to give the battery a full charge tonight. Thanks for the response.

Sounds like the starter may be spinning for a bit too long.

You know like when you start a car that uses a key and you hold the key for a bit too long while starting? Don't think the battery is related, may be other issues.

Might be time to see a mechanic to test battery voltage, starter, alternator...and go from there

You might need a new starter but then again your car is still starting up. Would like to know more when you find out what it could be.

Thanks guys, I made an appointment with the dealer to take a look at it this Friday. The car is under extended warranty so hopefully they will cover whatever it might be.

+1

It actually sounds like it's got cold-start issues, causing it to crank longer. No matter though, if it's going to the dealer and is under warranty, they'll fix it.

At 85K miles, hitachi starters start to go. (some even after 60K)
Other than that, spark plugs, clogged/leaky injectors start to show up.
All of which may cause cold-start issues. Good luck!

If you haven't changed your spark plugs at 60K,
I'd advise doing that!
(i don't care what the manual says, platnum plugs shouldn't go much farther than 60K in my book)

I'm pretty sure the plugs are the stock ones.. I purchased the car last summer with 65k miles and I believe it was a trade in lease. Who knows what maintenance work was done before it was traded in. Are plugs pretty difficult to swap out on these vehicles? I came from the Subaru world and those were a pain in the @$$.

.
Well, that would all be fine, but those are iridium plugs, not platinum, and they can easily go far past 60K (or 85K). There are thousands and thousands of these cars successfully running the oem iridium plugs to the manufacturer's recommended change interval. That being said, just like changing your oil at 3k, it's not like you would hurt anything by doing it prematurely. Sometimes old habits just die hard.
