Engine problem (small or big problem)

Hi all, Its been awhile since i posted something here because i haven't really had any much problem on my car until today. Long story short I went to the dealer last two weeks ago to get my oil change and tire rotated (2007 2nd gen 62k tech pack). After the service the tech noted "engine oil leak around inner timing cover." The service rep ask me if i notice any oil drops when i park my car or any some sort of Engine light on my dash, and i said nothing (have my own garage so i know if theres oil leaking on the floor) then he said its "minor" for sure and won't worry too much about it. But today it itches me to bring my car to the dealer to take a look at it. after 5 hours i get a phone call from the service rep and said they found gasket leak, coolant and oil already mixed together somewhat. I don't really understand much what the service rep said because when i ask him if its my head gasket that broke, he said not really. so know I'm kinda confuse (but not worry about the cost since I still have extended warranty) any thoughts from you guys will be appreciated.

I will update you guys what really happened to my car when i get it back on friday. For now I'm driving the loaner they gave me 2013 M37x.

Well if it is a gasket leak, most likely is that the engine overheated causing this. Most gasket leaks are caused by low coolant levels and the engine overheated, causing the metal to expand and gaskets to fail.

It isn't a big deal since you have warranty.

My 07 G35S had a head gasket leak as well. There was a small pooling of coolant on top of the engine from a slow seepage that they found during routine maintenance. The dealership said it was a known issue that they see semi-regularly and was covered under the powertrain warranty. My engine had also never been overheated, no leaks on my garage floor, coolant level was normal (it was a very minor leak) and temp gauge all fine too.

*****UPDATE*****

I came in today to get my work badge that i left in my car and they told me that its my head gasket that causing the leak and slow seepage of the coolant. BSG1 youre right they also told me that they see this issue in semi-regularly. Now im hoping that they will do better job putting back my engine and fixing this issue because my extended warranty is up this coming Dec.

Glad they caught it in time, I think the cost was like $4000 if not under warranty. Mine was done a couple years ago and it's been fine. While they're in there, maybe they can also check your drive belt since you're at 62k miles. The part is cheap, and labor should be pretty cheap since everything is already taken apart.

I might do a Blackstone oil analysis next year. This should detect any coolant in oil.
When I came back to get my work badge they let me walk in to their working area and noticed they remove the whole engine and they seems like cleaning or polishing between the engine and the intake manifold collector. Im guessing they do that so when they install the new gasket it will be snug right back.

In my case, you wouldn't have to take off anything. They simply shined a flashlight in the opening along the top, middle opening just beneath the engine cover and showed me the dried coolant.

Hey guys the area where you had the oil leak around the timing cover did it happen to look like this??

Notice the spot where I wiped this oily substance off with my index finger in those 2 pictures.
