Installing aftermarket backup camera on stock radio?

I have an 07 Infiniti G35 x base sedan with no nav or backup camera. Is it possible to install a license plate backup camera to the stock radio? Has anyone ever tried it and or have a diy guide? Thanks in advance.

You can. I haven't done it myself but have seen other people do it (so don't quote me for truth). There are different approaches you can go by.

-You have to run the wires from the back to the front.
-For power, I believe people connect to the reverse lights so it turns on when you're backing up
-A lot of people use the AUX port for the nav (RCA in the glove compartment) but the problem is the NAV shuts off if you're not in park and have the parking brake engaged. There is a hack that will allow you to view while on the move
-You can do some modding where the nav switches automatically to AUX when you shift to reverse. Not sure how though.

Trying searching for these things to get you on the right track

I was able to add my own version of a rear view camera that would look like it came from factory. You will need to get a module that would be able to connect to an aftermarket camera to load onto your stock screen. You also need to run the wires from the camera (which is powered through reverse lights as mentioned). It is really easy to run the wires, through the trunk and then to the right side of the vehicle under the seats. You then place the module in the front glove box and you connect one of the cables from the module to the back of the Center console/screen. Here are links to the exact items i needed:

Chrome spoiler with camera cutout: can find it on ebay or on the forums $50-$70

AVelectronics module with 2 inputs: About $200

an oem style camera, i chose this fahrenhite one: $85

I did this a few years ago:

- Still very pleased with the boyo cam form factor. newer models add parking lines
- vci-nis2 is 'ok'. for backup cam its fine, but for playing videos etc colors are washed out.
