Door assembly replacement checklist

Hey guys,

2007 G35x w/ 71xxx miles. Last winter, I had a lot of mornings where my driver door would seem to "freeze" shut---I was unable to open the door from inside or out; the latches just felt like they were moving freely; etc. I was typically able to solve this by letting the car warm up or by taking it through a hot car wash.

However, I also had a second problem with this same door---the door latch assembly would occasionally fail to "reset" when I opened the door, which would then make it impossible to shut the door. I could usually poke around with a screwdriver and eventually reset the latch so it would catch, but there was usually quite a bit of resistance before I would succeed.

Anyway, I got advice from others on here, and basically just started using a ton of silicone lubricant every few weeks on both the latch and gap on the exterior door handle---the problem went away. (YAY!)

. . . .

Until last night.

I was leaving a restaurant and the door latch problem returned! I immediately noticed something was wrong when I pulled on the driver door. . . it sort of felt like it stuck at the point where it ordinarily would start to "catch" . . . and then boom---wouldn't reset and I couldn't close the door. I had to jimmy it around with the screwdriver for about ten minutes before the latch would reset. Got home, lubed the hell out of it, but CLEARLY the lube isn't solving the problem long-term.

It is my driver's door, so it's kind of mission-critical that it function correctly.

Has anyone done a "complete replacement" on the door latching assembly? Can anyone relate to this problem?

I'm looking for a checklist of parts that need to be replaced as well as the appropriate names for what parts I should be having replaced. I have a very good independent shop that will do pretty much anything I ask, but I like being able to send them in the right direction (and, if they are going to open up the door panel, they might as well replace all of the parts that may be malfunctioning).

Thanks!

-Reg

Look at this: http://www.trademotion.com/parts/200...iagram=3841420

To minimize cost, you'd probably be better off swapping with used parts though.
