this seems to be a 2nd gen issue (V36), not a 1st gen.

My 08 has 194K on it no problems (probably have been REAL lucky) BUT i have evacuated and recharged at 70K and 140K. But then again i am the guy who flushes his brake and power steering fluid every 30K (in addition to following all the other fluid recommendations) I do wish i knew where that perfect sweet spot is with maintenance. I know a few people who get by with 30% of the maintenance i do on my car and it seems to work for them...i guess it is that peace of mind i am buying..even if it is probably a false sense my feeble brain forgets that fact so it works for me!! LOL

That is to say the least.

For a premium japanese car, these G35's have some inferior parts that are known to have problems or break down for no reason.

Sorry for your issue. I'm no a/c expert, so no help there. But with my model year G35, I've already spent thousands on repairs, I don't even want to think about it--because that money could've gone to mods instead.

Ditto, from awful rotors, to faulty BCM system, to damaged control arm, to AC issues, various noises and interior pieces becoming unglued, this car has become a major headache.

None of which plagued the first gen cars... at lease not mine.

My experience with a the 08 G35 Journey has been quite different from Justice and Bat. Penny for penny it has been the best car i have owned in 45 years of driving cars. Bought it used in 10 with 55k on it. Have taken pretty good care of it. The only complaint from me at 192K is chipping paint on steering wheel and door rests and the stupid cup holder in front console. I did not like the $600 new starter and related parts but i could not do it myself and the dealership i have used has been very fair with me over the years and has performed excellent maintenance at below prices that others report on this site & internet in general. (Fluid flushes, brake jobs, wheel bearing replacement and Navigation updates)
IMHO this is one of those models of cars that for the most part got it right at a very competitive price. If i am not mistaken Consumer Reports statistics over the years bears this out with respect to being in the top of comparative models with fewest repairs. However statistics are a fact of life and it stands to reason some of these cars would have more problems than others. Then again there are a hell of a lot of people in this country who expect a free lunch....

So I decided to contact Infinity and this is their reply:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Infiniti and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

A review of our systems shows that the vehicle was not seen at an Infiniti retailer for the repair. In order to be considered for an out of warranty assistance, the vehicle must be diagnosed at an Infiniti retailer. Please provide us with those details so we can continue to assist you."

So what I'm getting from this is that my a/c could have been fixed out of warranty... I will take it tomorrow for a diagnostic and hope they can fix it for free and get reimbursed for the $500 already spent on the compressor and the labor. Crossing my fingers

Good luck. In my situation I was well out of the warranty period. Consumer affairs reached an agreement with me that they would only cover labor cost. My first compressor was replaced completely free of charge. I think I was well within reason to expect them to replace the 2nd one completely free as well. Consumer affairs disagreed and we settled reluctantly on infiniti covering just the labor.

Do they warrant their repair work?

I've thought about this also in case my compressor goes out. I ended up have my system flushed and recharged by a shop because the dealer was going to charge way too much. Nevertheless I now have a/c again but I'm out $800. The trim on my center console is getting unglued and the window rubber trim on the doors melts in the sun. The lemon law has crossed my mind but will wait to see if this compressor will last me a bit. Having second thoughts about buying another Infinity

Both the part and labor are warrantied. I refuse to go back to the dealer who did the 2nd compressor replacement. I spoke with consumer affairs and they said the warranty will transfer to another dealership.

Mine just died at 126k miles. But it sounds like mine was a bit of a different issue, driving to work one morning and started to hear a HORRIBLE squeel from the engine bay and rubber burning. Pulled into the first mechanic I could and they found that the compressor/clutch wouldn't spin at all.

$3,000 to replace and took a week to get the parts and complete it.
