2008 g35s sedan won't enter self diagnostic mode

So my CE light came on while parked with the engine running while I ran into the gas station. I don't have my scan tool available but really need to check codes. I have seen 20+ post that walk you through the accelerator pumping and timing that's required... But this process seems to be useless to me. Am I doing the wrong process or is something so dramatically wrong that my car will not enter self diagnostic mode? I can't get a scanner on it until Monday because of my work schedule and this is my daily. Any suggestions? I am very familiar with all cars, specifically Nissan... So I know I did the procedure correctly.

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks everyone.

I've never tried to read ECU codes through the pedal dance, so I can't say what's up with that, but if your MIL indicator (aka: check engine light) isn't blinking then it's likely not a critical fault type, so it is probably alright to continue driving it until you can get the code read on Monday. If you're in one of the less restrictive states, you can probably go to one of the big auto parts stores, which are often open late, and "borrow" (refundable deposit deal) a code reader from them.
