2008 G just turned 200K

I just rolled over 200,000 miles on my 2008 G Journey This car has been and continues to be not only fun to drive but a very good transportation "investment"

That's a lot of miles! Glad it's still going strong. Had any kind of maintenance trouble?

No major issues but could use some advice...

i replaced the shocks/struts and upper mounts for those @125K. Replaced the spark plugs at the same time and had the injectors cleaned. (NOT THE THROTTLE BODIES EVER) Replaced the front wheel bearings/hubs @ 150K Replaced the starter @ 185K
I have been through 3 sets of rotors on front 2 sets on back. On my 3rd battery. Changed all fluids at recommended intervals (except i flush my PS and Brake fluid every 30K) on my 4th set of tires. My next project is to replace worn front end parts although it holds alignment and there are no issues with squeaks, steering issues or ride but after 200K it is TIME
Also going to replace exhaust with High flow cats along with an OEM type muffler of some sort. Have not figured out that configuration yet. Will use SS pipes of course but i am not sure of the exact brand of high flow cats and muffler. I never race the car - just want to basically keep it stock with an improvement on the exhaust (because the posters i respect on here all agree that the cats are the weakest link in an otherwise very strong chain...entire car)

I am sure i will be rebuilding the engine before the new exhaust system wears out but that is ok too. I may be able to get 300K out of the engine however. There is not much info on this site or others about the endpoint of these engines on average.. i am hearing some noise during idling not exactly like a valve tick but similar Not sure what that is. Nissan mechanic i know says it's normal for these engines with this many miles.. Anyone got any ideas about cost effective High Flow Cats and proper match for mufflers would be welcome. Plus if anyone can offer an educated guess as to the extra rattling/ticking during idle i would like to know. It would be nice if something like a valve adjustment could be done without too much trouble IF IN FACT that is what is going on. Now that the computers are the major controller of modern cars i am quite ignorant to much of what i used to feel comfortable discussing with respect to repairs/PM. Still i have greatly benefitted by owning this car. Damn good investment for me personally.

This is why I love the VQ motors. Fantastic reliability, performance, sound and everything else!

i don't know about that and ill tell you from personal experience. in 2002 i bought a Nissan Altima with a 3.5 V6 5speed. I replaced the engine oil on time every time. at 42k my engine blew because lack of oil. this was before all the forums were huge in the car scene. i only recently found out that there was a problem with the VQ motors burning too much oil. after replacing the motor with a new one, i checked my oil ever week and continue to do so. That new DE motor still burned a lot of oil and would occasionally have to top it off. Now, I have to admit that the HR motor doesn't nearly burn as much oil as the old DE motors but I'm still not comfortable with the loss.

As I'm typing this, I'm starting to think why in the hell did i buy another infiniti???

Well, the answer is I'm a loyal nissan guy and have had a lot of nissans in my day. That and its the closest car to taking on the BMW guys without all that maintenance and cost lol

Yeah, the DE had oil consumption issues but my HR is rock solid in that regard.. don't get any burnoff.

Coupe, Premium package, sport suspension
This issue is not unique to Nissan/Infiniti. The current dodge from mfrs is that "oil consumption is normal." And their std for normal consumption is quite a bit of oil consumed. Subaru is one of the worst (have a neighbor dealing with them right now), but all do it to some extent. Google search will turn up many sadnesses.

That dude is such an idiot. Even if you try to look past the annoying voice and camera work. I'm sure he has a point sometimes somewhere. I just don't have the patience to listen to him.

Sorry late to this party... I've had the same issue for years, surprised there's not more discussion about it on the forum (but I haven't followed very closely lately). I got a lot of comments on youtube posts about it.

I've also been told by dealer and good independent shop that it's normal, but I'd still like to understand what it is. Lubrication? Fuel? I've considered doing engine cleaning treatments but doubt they would do much. I've used full synthetic oil for years and recently switched to conventional oil to see if it makes a difference (none so far).
