HELP! Strong lurch and
HELP! Strong lurch/metallic click
Hi all,
I had an 09 G37 which was unfortunately in an accident and totaled. Just replaced it with an 07 G35 sedan. I purchased it from the second owner with 93k miles and he had meticulously maintained it at the same shop. He has done all of the factory recommended maintenance, oil changes every 5k with Mobil 1, and I even spoke to the shop technician about the car. He had nothing but good things to say about it. I took it to different shop for a brief pre-purchase inspection and it passed with flying colors. SOLD! $9k cash.
Both times I test drove the car the engine was already hot. Now that I've taken it home and had it to myself, I've seen an interesting thing happen when cold. (It's AUTO transmission) When I shift from park to reverse, there is a strong lurch, feels like the car is engaging the gear, and a pretty loud and noticeable metallic "click" sound. The same thing happens when I go from reverse back to drive. It doesn't happen, or at least it's not very noticeable once the car is hot. Other than that it drives like a dream! Starts up extremely smooth, shifts smooth and strong, etc. I have noticed a slight rattling sound at idle.
Anyone know what this could be? I'd love to hear your experiences with it and be pointed in the right direction... I'm planning to take it in to the shop it's been maintained at for years this week.
Thanks!

The trans fluid has not been changed for a long time... Definitely due. Should I have it flushed/cleaned and replaced? Is that sound anything to be concerned about or probably just something minor?
JJust do everything... trans, coolant, differential, power steering fluids and the plugs. I got my car @ 78k and just did all that last july when i was just under 100k. Buy everything yourself and have mechanic do it. If ur going to do this and want to know how much of each to buy LMK. Start changing the oil every 3k too.
Where is this rattling coming from? Front, middle or rear? The Y pipe has insulators around it that loosen up and rot out. I dont know what state ur in but im in NY and my insulators were shot and Y pipe had a big leak in it .
