Replacement for G

Replacement for G

Hey Guys,

I m looking for a replacement for my 08 G35, but with a manual transmission and something with about the same performance(HP) or better. As you know, there is not a whole lot of options out there with manual transmission, so I have narrowed down to either the WRX STI, the 370Z Nismo, or the M4. The M4 is a bit steep as far as price is concern, and the Nismo is a two seater, so at the moment, I think I am leaning toward the STI.

Long story short, test-drove the Limited STI today, and loved it. I love how well it handles. However, after taking a good look at the interior and under the hood, I feel that the built quality of the car is a step down from our G. The leather seats feel cheap, and the dash is similar to a Honda Civic. Not just that, after I priced out the Limited STI, with the optional Harman Kardon package, I am looking at around $42K. Just for comparison, a buddy of mind got the Infiniti Q50 last year, with the Bose system, and he paid $45K. Also, last year when I went to ask about the Nismo Z, I was able to get it down to $42K.

Am I wrong to expect more from the STI? I don’t know much about Subaru, so maybe there is something I am missing that justifies the price?

Considered a GTO/Holden Manaro? For a GM product it had an amazing build quality, and with 400hp it's nothing to sneeze at. Just a thought since an excellent example can be had for under 20k.

I'm currently waiting for the Chevy SS to resume sales (which have been halted due to a ridiculous seat-belt recall issue). The SS is a total sleeper, LS3 V8, 415 hp - 415 ftlbs torque, rear wheel drive, 6-speed manual, 4 doors. Need I say more? Look it up, it is one of the best driver's cars in decades, often compared to the infamous E39 BMW M5. The only down fall is poor mileage and benign looks, both of which I could give a $hit about.

Mustang GT (not as luxurious but good hp), or BMW 335is used in the same price range.

Or why not get the G37?

Camaro SS would be a perfect choice since September will introduce the '17 model year and the '16 will get much less expensive! LT motor and MT are hard to beat and maintenance is far less than most cars already suggested! Besides, you don't want to get that BMW azz wipe attitude!

Been thinking about what a G replacement would be. I dunno I look around, read up on the different options and I always end up back looking at the G37s. Definitely going back to a manual tho. The ATs are nice for traffic but I miss the finesse of having a clutch to use.

Audi forget it, BMW maybe, Merc styling isn't for me. The new Q50 and Q60 are just too computer aided, and no manual options.

Just keep on trucking in the G35 for now I guess.

The Camaro SS is definitely an amazing car, and I guess if you are coming from a coupe, it could be acceptable as a DD, but if you're used to a sedan and need 4 doors and the extra room, then the Camaro is likely to cause claustrophobic reactions. It's definitely NOT a car for more than 2 adults.

x2 on the Camaro SS, much better than the 2015 version.
But like VQ said, only if you're going to use the back seat to haul burritos.

man i only need 1 seat to haul my burritos. damm you need both seats. your burrito hauling game is strong

but on topic. i ran into this same issue a few months ago. i finally decided on a g37. the quality is good. not like the STI. after owning a c5 corvette, i couldnt pull the trigger on the camaro. if i was gonna do that i might as well just buy another corvette. if you do decide on the g37 def BE SURE to buy the manual trans. the auto trans is ridiculous. too many gears. the thing is always shifting. If only i didnt live in LA.

Thanks for all the feedbacks. I did considered the Camero and even the Mustang GT. BUT there are just waaaaay too many of them here in LA and OC.
