AFS Warning Light

My AFS warning light comes on and remains on. Each time I shut the car off and restart it the light goes out but comes back. I have not removed headlights or replaced bulbs, etc. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm I've never heard about the AFS warning light. Must be a second gen thing unless, of course, you're talking about the ABS light???

Malfuntion with the AFS system, could be something unplugged, or major where the lights cannot turn anymore as you turn the vehicle.

At the age of the car, as long as the headlights light up the road, thats most important. The AFS turning with the road is nice, but in my experience is not worth fixing if it costs more than $100 to do so lol

For a rundown of what all is involved in the AFS, have a look in the FSM, Exterior Lighting System (EXL), starting at page EXL-19 for a description of the system, and then with detailed diagnostic coverage (via Consult III ) starting on page EXL-40.

As you can see, there is a lot of "intelligent" control involved in the AFS, with inputs being contributed from multiple sources, so consequently there are many potential points of failure to consider. The fact that you are getting a solid failure (bulb illumination) most likely means there is a fault code set, which would certainly help narrow the field. I am not sure whether you can read those fault codes with just an OBD-II scanner, or if you need the special Consult system that the dealer uses.

At a minimum, I would be sure to check your fuses. Maybe you will luck out and it will be something simple like that.

Thanks guys. My OBD scanner didn't show a fault code. I will check fuses/connections. I won't throw much money into it if it's more involved than that. That light is annoying, though.

Test the AFS just by turning the wheel from lock to lock while in dirve but not moving and see if the lights move too. Also you know there is an on/off switch right next to the VDC switch that can disable it.

Honestly I don't find the AFS to be all that great. Maybe on really twisty stuff but from what I have seen it doesn't help me much. Sometimes in the winter it can freak people out as the lights really tend to sway when you are correcting for slides in bad snow and ice.
