07 Journey with vlsd

I'm so confused because I swear my g35 has a vlsd, but I thought no 07 journeys came with vlsd?.. I can get sideways turning a corner 90% of the time with VDC off. Only time I can't get sideways is when I turn VDC off and quickly get on the gas then it cuts power as if VDC hasn't deactivated.. but if I turn VDC off and drive a second. She gets sideways basically every time. Yes I bought the car used. Has sport wheels also when I'm on the highway I feel like it rides more harsh that it should for a journey, but then again I don't think I've ever been in another G35.. I've done a donut before and it left two tire marks so idk.. also if it's raining and I turn VDC off she'll spin so easily. I lost control in the rain when I first got it. lol I turned VDC off and forgot and hit the gas and the back end spun around quicker than I could react.. what's yalls opinion? Or maybe this is how all open diff G35s reacts idk I'm confused... lol

VDC is a system that monitors the individual vehicle speed sensors and when it detects one tire is spinning faster than the rest it cuts engine throttle and output.

VLSD is a mechanical system in the rear axle to transfer power from the tire that spinning to the tire that's NOT spinning by using a set of plates and special fluid that becomes thicker as the fluid is agitated, as one tire slips the fluid then transfers a percentage of torque to the opposite tire.

You can get both tires to spin with the non-lsd axle on dry pavement due to the suspension design and balance of the G (and many other vehicles as well), wet pavement is a completely different story.

If you want to know for sure if you have the VLSD jack up the rear of the vehicle and turn one tire, the opposite tire should spin the same direction. If the other tire doesn't spin or goes the opposite direction then you have the non-vlsd diff.

Yeah I've heard of testing it that way. I might do that tomorrow, But like I said both tires will break lose when it's wet. I can roast them if I smash the gas with VDC off when wet. Also like I stated previously when I first got my g on the first rainy night I experiencedthe back end literally whipped around and I had brand new tires on as well I tried to control it with throttle but it whipped around to fast, but that could mean nothing.. Thanks man I'll post my results tomorrow. It would be bad *** if the previous owner did an VLSD SWAP!!

A little more research is turning up that the '07 journey might have ABLS on the rear axle, basically it's a fancy way of clamping the spinning tire using the antilock brakes which FORCES the other tire to become the "tire with the least resistance" and transfers power to it instead. It's not actually turning BOTH tires, it just alternates which one is spinning.

This was some info from a nicoclub forum thread, I can't find any solid information about it anywhere and it's apparently only applicable to to the '07 journey..

I have another question for you. Since day one of me owning my G my transmission has made a rattling sound. Never had a issue with slipping or anything. it operates as it should, but it always has had this Rattle. When I got my AC compressor replaced because my old one froze. I ask the deal about it when I dropped it off and they tried telling me that it was my A/C compressor rattling. I know quit a bit about car and know for a fact it's the transmission. I will be getting it check out sometime soon at a different dealer, but what are your thoughts? Know of anyone else having this issue? It's a 5AT..

Never heard of anyone complaining of AT rattle sounds but I'd check the coolant lines, they run right by the power steering pump and maybe they're rattling against something? Honestly the only way I troubleshoot rattles anymore is to get the vehicle on a lift, have someone in the drivers seat reproduce the rattle while I poke around with a mechanics stethoscope. Otherwise you end up wasting a LOT of time trying to find the problem. I'm not aware of any transmission rattle but I would check linkage, tranny support mount, flywheel access dust cover bolts (if they exist on the AT), and the coolant lines. Also the ENTIRE exhaust system since that's where the majority of rattles seem to come from anyways.

AC compressors don't "rattle" either, you hear the clutch engagement but otherwise they're fairly quiet...

About the ABLS though, the system is used on the X models, that's how they transfer power from one end of the axle to the other, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they kept just the rear ABLS for the journey model in that year but again, I can't find any solid evidence of it so...
