Car Wont Start. Dash lights all lights come on.
Hello everyone.
I need some help with my car. I have a 2008 infiniti g35 that wont start. No crank and no start .So not the spark plugs or anything similar. The problem started 2 weeks ago. I went to turn on the car one day and it wouldnt start. Seemed the battery had died. I jumped it and I was fine for a few days. Then one day I tried to turn the car on and it would not start. The dash lights came on and the car would not turn on. Here is what I did. I also read the forums but no luck. There was a lot of rain water recently too but I dont know if its the cause.
1) Changed the battery. Less than a year old. Free replacement by Rural King. Voltage matches.
2) Check the OBD code - U1000. No other codes.
3) Checked the IPDM. All the relay and fuses are ok. didnt change the box my self. But looked okay. Cleaned all the water in the battery area.
4) Connected the starter and it moved and turned so no issues. It is fine.
5) Opened bottom dash under steering and bought new nissan security dummy for the car. No luck.
6) Replaced battery key that was dying. I inserted the key in car and no luck.
7) did a jump start and no luck either.
Dont know if anyone has help. I had replaced the engine and cleaned the exhaust out last year august.
Thanks

Start on page PG-3 and test your battery with a battery Hydrometer and use your multimeter to trace.
Just because the battery is a year old doesn't mean it is good. Might have a dead cell?

Even a defective battery will read 12v
Check for voltage at all the fuses including the main one at the positive battery cable using your multimeter
Check both battery cables for voltage and ground

Ok. So checked the battery. The cell, its ok. I had already checked the postive battery cable fuse and its ok. I checked both cables and no luck. The car does not even crank. everything will lightup and work but dont even hear a click.

I changed key battery. Not sure it if needs to be programmed and if I could do that myself?
Had mobile key guy come today. Using a programmer and the key was fine. The key is fine and reads but the car does not want to do anything with it. Everything else is ok? Does anyone know what might cause this go bad or how to fix.
I assume it's automatic transmission. There should be a neutral switch somewhere that closes when the transmission is in "PARK" I'm not sure where it is located, but you can search the service manual. There is also a dual contact or may be a separate switch at the break pedal mechanism under the dash that provide continuity to the starter solenoid when the break pedal is depressed. Check all the switches to make sure they are good. Had the same issue with my coupe, but it is a manual and there is a switch on the clutch pedal mechanism that was bad. I was in a bind and couldn't get a new switch so I took it apart cleaned the contacts and it's been working fine for 4 years.
Right there is your clue

The diagnostic tool Consult lll can quickly tell a properly trained dealer technician where the problem is.
My advice is to call AAA which with a proper membership will give you up to 200 miles of free towing and have your vehicle towed to your nearest Infiniti dealer and pay the one hour diagnostic fee.
They can give you the root cause and how much it will cost to repair.

Thanks Telcoman, I completely missed the CAN failure code in the initial post.
OP do you have an aftermarket stereo that was installed recently? Any other aftermarket electronics? Has it rained heavily in the past couple of weeks?

No aftermarket stereo. But yes its raining crazy the last couple of weeks in Florida. Almost every day.
I would look for water damage in the engine bay, might be getting into your IPDM and fried a fuse or corroded something. It's not nearly as common on the V36 platform but it's definitely still possible.
